Is Perez contracted to McLaren for just ine season (2013), or did he managed to sign a multi-year contract?

I just have a feeling that this guy isn't going to stay long at Woking. I hope I'm wrong.

I'd be trying to hire Weber right now.

I do hope he'll improve this year. To be fair, his car isn't great and he's with a completely new team so it'll take a bit before he gets up to speed of course...

He's on a multi-year contract -The length of which seems to be unspecified for some reason.

I think it's a bit premature to be predicting Perez's McLaren demise after just two races TBH.

IMO Perez got signed to McLaren because Telmex will be the next title sponsor

That sounds more plausible but perez doesn't rate in my book, he only looked good when he had fresh tyres and everybody else was struggling on old tyres

It's only his second season - Towards the end of this season would probably be a more accurate picture of his abilities

Very true, I was too quick to judge him, he does have ability but currently not top tier and Jensen is a good gauge to compare him to

For years I was always hoping that another brilliant driver would come from Mexico, to remind me of Pedro Rodriguez.
I had hope on Perez, but I cannot see him blossoming at McLaren, with all the pressure he must be under, and with his limited experience.
That's why I asked if there was some duration in his contract.
    He must be given time.

Be patient; give him a chance :D. Expecting a business, driver, or any new venture to be successful immediately is crazy. It can happen, but that's certainly not the norm. The guy is not doing great right now, but not doing bad at all either. He's been really close to Button, which is perfectly acceptable (or even unexpected) at this early stages. As mentioned, we'll have a better idea of the 'marriage' at the end of the season. The car is certainly not helping him... to Hamilton's delight :D.

Perez is a good, competent driver but he doesn't come across as brilliant. His best asset is the relationship with Slim/Telmex.

I'd love to be proven wrong but Checo is no where near Pedro or Ricardo Rodriguez. Jo Ramirez could shed some light in this comparison. :)

He's doing alright... He needs a little bit of time. We knew that his qualifying had
to improve and after two races, probably is not enough. I've been watching his times in
practice and quali and it's not miles of difference against Jenson. And if we consider that
this car has a lot more input from him since Hamilton decided to part, then it is not so bad.
If it appears that Perez is struggling then what can we say about Jenson?

To be honest, I'm more surprised that Grosjean is further away from Raikkonnen than
Perez from Jenson; Grosjean has been at Lotus for longer.

I knew he would be dusted in qualifying by Jenson considering he had been smoked by Kobayashi a couple years in a row...
