I'm wondering where to source period acceptable floor mats for my '56 250 GT Boano. It currently has a beautiful, light tan colored carpet that I wish to preserve.
    Many Thanks, RF.

If I may suggest a simple, but very, perhaps the most accurate period solution, just use the car “as is”, periodically clean the carpets and if/when eventually they become severely soiled and/or worn, have them replaced ?

Typically, during the upholstery redo, overlays are made from the same carpet. Mine didn't come like that, so I bought a couple yards of similar carpet, made paper templates and had a shop sew a pair of overlays with matching binding.

While not necessarily “period correct” approach, I’ve done similar on several (client) cars.
It looks much better/cleaner solution than most aftermarket mats available, especially those with some gaudy brand logos on them.

Thanks, Johns car looks great. I'll try and do the same. I was just hoping that there was an easy, aftermarket answer that was available. What car is pictured here? I like the plastic protection on the center hump. Mine on the Boano really bulges into the throttle action, and I would like to protect this area also.

    Many Thanks, RF.

Here's a very rare period photo showing the correct old original interior of 250 GT Boano #0565 GT.
0565 GT is only three Boanos prior to 0571 GT.

WOW! Thanks Marcel! It's comforting to see that the PO did a great job on my interior!

It appears "0571 GT" originally had what reads/sounds like a super cool color combo. Still wearing it or ... ?

I'm afraid that the original brown is long gone. It's a beautiful dark, rich, period Red now. Somewhere, early along the line, she lost her front bumper also, and the tools, and jack. : ( But the rest seems OK, and matching #s.

0571 GT was originally not brown.

That's a relief! I am not a fan of brown, despite it's rarity. Pray tell what your records dictate? The records I received with the car state a brown, and an early photo does show a horrible shade of metalic brown. I am actually relieved at this info! Many Thanks, RF.

Marcel - great interior shot - do you have any interior shots (similar) for the Ellena, that shows the floor mat? I would like to duplicate a mat for the Ellena.

i think at one time researching this topic, that black mat in your pic is a rubber based mat - vs carpet.....is that assumption correct?

Yes, of course it is RUBBER, not a carpet!

The mat in Marcel's picture is something you would see as floor covering for OSCAs, Siatas and the sort. It is sewn with binding and used in lieu of carpeting. Here, the Boano being a passenger car, it's used as just overlays. See page 35 of this catalogue under "Pyramid Rubber".

The correct Pyramid type rubber was made by Pirelli and more like small diamonds. Availible from specialist suppiers.
