On an old post, someone mentioned a guy/mechanic in California who was puting two Pertronix units into one distributor. I wonder if anyone knows who this was and how to get in touch with him or anyone else who is doing this mod?

    Thanks.

Thanks a bunch for the number. I called and the place is known as Elite Automotive? No one was there at the time so I left a voice mail. I am wondering, did you look to see how he installed the pertronix units? I am wondering if my distributor, which is a dual points distrubutor, could just accept the pertronix units in the place of the old points? I know the "points" have to be a certain amount of degrees from each other, I am wondering if the dual points system is already set up this way?

There has been a lot of threads on this but you need to know that you do not need the dual points to run. There is 1 set of points that retard the spart at idle and then there are the running points. Almost everyone on this site with the earlier twin dist. and dual points have disconnected the retard set of points. The way my dizzy is set up he sets the 1st pick up set on #1 and sets the 2nd pickup at 45 degrees . You have 4 sets of leads comming out of the dizzy. The reds go to +12V on each coil and the blacks go to the - term. on each coil. You time the car to 7DBTDC and both PM1-4 and PM5-8 are set. He sends you a cut open dizzy cap so you can set the 2nd dizzy up and lock it into place. He is very helpfull in getting you on the road. I left my condensors on the dizzys so it looks stock. Unless you look real hard you cannot tell it is a pointless system. You can use stock coils or upgrade to a hotter type.

Actually, what I was trying to get at was whether or not the second set of points, which are usually removed, are in the correct 45 degree location? Or are they set at some other location?

In the US 308 dual distributors, the nominal mounting angle between the point sets is physically 175 deg (which is 5 dist. deg electrical since the distributor cam has four lobes at 90 deg).

I'm not precisely familiar with the physical size of the Petronix "module", but even if they needed to be mounted at 135 deg physical rather than 45 deg physical (which both give 45 dist. deg electrical) for the "single trigger for each bank with both mounted in one distributor" approach, it wouldn't be a big deal either way IMO (e.g., tapping a few extra mounting holes or using some adjustable bracketry from the existing mounting holes won't be too difficult).
