The Pescarolo name has been synonymous to Le Mans for the better part of the last 50 years. And after not taking part in this year’s twice-around-the-clock classic, Henri Pescarolo is set to return as a team owner in 2011, thanks to the help of two very generous individuals.

Pescarolo Sport, which was purchased by Sora Composites in late 2008, had gone into receivership after team principal Jean Py was unable to put a program together around this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The team’s assets were auctioned off today at its base in the Le Mans Technoparc. But to the surprise of many, two of the sport’s loyalists banded together to help keep Pescarolo Sport alive.

OAK Racing team owner Jacques Nicolet and Joel Riviere (F1 Clienti Ferrari) of Prestige Racing purchased the assets of Pescarolo Sport, including the two Pescarolo P01 chassis and various other support equipment valued at over $550,000, and gave it to the 68-year-old veteran owner/driver to help rebuild his team.

The keys to the workshop were handed back to Henri following the auction, much to the surprise of the four-time Le Mans winner, who is now back in business after battling through a rough patch in his team’s history.

“I’m amazed and somewhat reconciled,” Pescarolo told Endurance-Info.com. “We’ll have to get back to work to allow the restart of the team. It’s a big responsibility but we cannot disappoint the trust that has been placed upon us.”

Nicolet, whose OAK Racing team purchased the constructor rights of the Pescarolo from Sora Group last year, has vowed to supply Henri with the necessary components needed to get his team back on track, including the necessary chassis and aerodynamic development needed to conform to 2011 ACO regulations.

While Pescarolo will have his work cut out for him to make the grid next year, including finding the necessary budget to return to the LMP1 ranks as a single or two-car team, there’s no doubt Henri will get there, especially following this very positive development and outpouring act of kindness.
