I will be picking up Painter on the 27th so I thought/hoped all the dog owners here could use a dedicated thread to discuss such things as basic care and nutrition. I think we can cover most sizes with one dedicated thread simply because of the basic correlation between all sizes and breeds.

I'll start out. Ima gonna hit the ol' PetSmart today for a few basics needs such as his/our first bag of 'Eukanuba Puppy Small Breed Formula Food' and some chew toys. The breeder recommends a 10sec heat cycle per serving with water in the microwave to warm and soften the food, Euk is what she uses so I will aswell.

Hopefully my instore search will have better results than my online search for fencing and a catch tray. What I'm trying to build in my bedroom is an open-top pen that will have potty pads on oneside, food and water in the middle and his little castle/chill pad on the other end as recommended by the breeder and that sounds logical to me.

    Any thoughts or recommendations??

What type of breed is it? I feed the Precise or orijin food for my dog. These are two places that do grain free food and is healthy. This one is important! Only a few companies real pet owners trust with food.

You wouldnt eat McDonalds all day. I mixed a little fatty food from cheaper brands so as a growing puppy, she got some crude fat. You want over 10% for pups.

The doctor told me to boil a very small amount of water and put it on her food to warm it up and bring the aroma out. Make sure the water cools a bit first though.

I just went through tons of research. I can even forward you the puppy checklist that pertains to my dog. Im sure youll find some stuff you need too.

The real catch is to be mentaliy prepared and it seems like you are!

Congrats and let me know if you want me to email you.

    Somethings you may have forgotten:

Natures Miracle- for cleaning up accidents
    Bitter Apple- for teething
    Plenty of towels ALOT
Any Vitamins you want to add to the diet. (buy this from a vet, not store Max $15)
Different type of chew toys (you won't know what she likes so keep the receipt)
I got SureGrow from Amazon which is Calcium for the rapid growth in puppies
Invest in a www.primopads.com. They are durable and easy to clean.
Treats- make sure you get something healthy and not too fatty.
Oatmeal shampoo that you should use once a month
Kwik stop for nail cutting along with clippers. Dremels work great.

Amazon is great to see reviews on pet products and find what works best.

Sorry about that he is a Malshi which is a registered mix between a pure maltese and a pure shihtzu parent, I'll add a pic.

You give me too much credit :D, no I'm ready. Regarding things I may have forgotten I have not but thanks for the reminder, I'm sure we will be fine and I have never had a dog or cat that was not fully taken care of.

I am going to use 'Eukanuba Puppy Small Breed Formula Food 'Puppy Chiot' which is recommended for puppies of breeds with adult weights up to 20 pounds from weaning until 12 months of age and it is what the breeder uses and suggest.
