Peter Sauber states that we're going to be treated to an amazing finale in the WDC this year. He sees it decided between the McLaren drivers and Kimi, he doesn't think Massa has any realistic chance anymore.

He anticipates a tough fight between the McLaren drivers from which Kimi might profit.

Regarding the remaining three races, he thinks Ferrari could have the upper hand: Ferrari was weak this year when the tire compound was more soft than hard and when driving over the curbs was required. None of that will apply in the remaining three races.

Massa would have to lead most (if not all) of the remaining possible 1-2 Ferrari finishes coming up. He's too far down. Even Kimi I think is on the cusp of being too many points back. Even if the Fcars were to win the remaining 3 races, McLaren would need a couple DNFs from their drivers for the points gap to really close.

McLaren has had bullet proof reliability. The McLaren drivers are the only ones on the grid to have finished all the races. With both drivers scoring points in each race, except for Lewis' 10th in Germany. Impossible to predict what could happen on track, outside of the teams' reliability history so far this season.

I'm rooting for Alonso. But at the same time, man, I'd like Kimi to get it, too. It's just so ironic that he left McLaren because they couldn't give him a car that would finish races. And it looks like reliability could be what ruins his chances this year.... again. Alonso already has 2 and Kimi very much deserves to join the WDC club.

Of course in hindsight we're all smarter, but maybe somebody should have seen that coming: I read an interview with Haug who said the engine freeze at the end of last season allowed them to focus on reliability. And given the few kablamos this year, that seems to be true for all the engine manufacturers.

As much as I like Kimi, it is also the sign of a WDC to pick the right car for the next season.

i really hope Ferrari not only win the remaining races with a 1-2, but also their relibility for next year. they should really score on that for next year.

Not so, PDavid. If Kimi finishes 1st in the last three races with someone other than McL in 2nd, with Hamilton getting no more than one 3rd, Kimi wins. Here are the numbers:Currently
    Hamilton - 97
    Alonso - 95
    Kimi - 84

    With 3 Kimi wins, Alonso 3 3rds, Hamilton 3 4ths =
    Kimi 114
    Alonso 113
    Hamilton 112

    With 3 Kimi wins, Alonso 2 3rds & 1 4th, Hamilton 1 3rd & 2 4ths =
    Kimi 114
    Hamilton 113
    Alonso 112

    With 3 Kimi wins, Hamilton 2 3rds & 1 4th, Alonso 1 3rd & 2 4ths =
    Kimi 114
    Hamilton 114
    Alonso 111

In other words, Ferrari's fate is in their own hands as long as Alonso beats Hamilton at least twice. Alonso cannot win if Kimi and Massa 1-2 the last three races (in that order). Hamilton can win by one by taking three thirds. If Ferrari really does have an advantage with the tire choice in the last three races, this could get interesting; and has been said, the Hamilton/Alonso duel could have interesting repercussions. Another interesting side story is what happens if things play out well for Ferrari in the first two races and then Massa out qualifies Kimi? This could happen.
