Well, for 48 hrs notice and one email, we didn’t do too badly today. We had a great turnout and a fantastic time today for Peter’s Freedom Rally and BBQ.

    On the rally:

    Lotus Elise
    Lotus Esprit SE
    Lotus Esprit S4
    360 Challenge Stradale
    TR (US)
    TR (Euro)
308QV (pointy nosed Magnum PI Style)
308GTSi (pointy nosed Magnum PI Style)
    348TS
    Countach QV
    and MORE!

I had a very, very slow start…the drain plug on the sump cover to the 348 stripped the last time the oil was changed. I couldn’t get the cover heli-coiled in time and of course I waited until Sunday morning. Well, thanks to Richard, the shop foreman at FoW, and Nick from Tischer Porsche, the 348 was back together and ready for the drive today.

Nick led the way through a short but sweet rally out to Edwards Ferry and back to Peter’s in Darnestown. The roads were generally free of traffic, road signs, painted lines and police, but they still managed one painfully slow C5 Vette driver. Even a minivan passed her!!!!

Nick and Condax in the 348 were putting on quite a show…I think they would’ve out qualified JPM in fact. Chris and I were in the 360CS with the rest of the crew following. We stopped in Poolesville for a break before heading back, leaving at precisely the wrong time…as the young women were walking up (to discuss ground effects I’m sure).

    :)

We returned to Peter’s for some bragging, beer and BBQ. The tremendous weather, cars, and people all made for quite an afternoon.

And, of course, the highlights were:

    1) my 348 totally taken apart, without oil at 2:30pm…a full 30 mins after the meeting time at Peter’s. 
    2) The 348 vs TR drag race…0-100mph.
    3) The 348 vs 308QV drag race…0-80mph.
    4) Passing the Vette while following a minivan (hahaha).
    5) The high speed brake testing in Poolesville.
    6) The BMX gang that came over to ask “Who's got the Mustang???”
    7) Ten exotics going 39mph in a 40mph zone as we approached that Mont Co Police car on River Road.
    8) Listening to Jim sing Haggar after a few Coronas for encouragement.
    9) Listening to Steve sing Twisted Sister after a few Pepperidge Farm Milanos.
    10) The wail of the 360CS at night…felt like we were on the Mulsanne Straight.

A huge thanks to Peter for all of his hospitality…until next time.

    LS

Many thanks to everyone who came...even if they were a GOOD two and a half hours late -- Lashdeep is the man. Who else could rile up that many exotics on a couple of e-mails??

Once again, I uterly failed to take one picutre of the event, but my lame excuse this time is an uncharged camera battery. If anyone has other photos, I would loveeeeee to have them.

Thanks again to everyone for coming, and I will do my best to send the family packing again in the near future. Jim -- next time you come, wear red leather pants, please.

I'd just like to say thanks to Peter for his hospitality and to Lashdeep for handling all of the logistics.

The front row jam session seats were great. It's good to be able to "relate." :)

    Regards,
    Chris
