Just a few shots from the 10 hr race this weekend. Thanks to David Scott for all the arrangements. The Ferrari corral and hosting facilities were simply terriffic. Great weather and a spectacular venue. Highly recommended for anybody who enjoys up-close and active racing. Many thanks to Cdoc.com for the use of their trailar roof at pit-out as a photo-perch. A great spot for the opening of the race,

I was there on Friday. I might have gone back on Saturday were it not for the second degree sunburn that I suffered to my face. My friend Lou Gigliotti competed in the Speed GT race. Unfortunately, he only finished 6th, so he didn't do his championship chances a whole lot of good with only one race to go.

Nice photos Bob, and it was good to meet you and David. Here's one I took of Lou on Friday in the Speed GT race...

Thanks for posting the pictures, I got a bit disapointed this morning when I noted that somehow all of my picutres where deleted. Dan, all of my pictures of the Carbon Fiber work in progress at Elan Motorsports is lost. Now I have to do it again. Bob, post some more as you see fit. Very nice, both of you. And for Jim on the GA site, post some pictures of the full coral if you have them.

Late in the afternoon I made it down into the paddock. I found David's Ferrari parked near the CDOC trailer, but not him. I told the fellow inside that I knew David and he let me go topside for a spell. Still a great spot for picture-taking! I didn't have my telephoto zoom with me, which was a bit limiting, though as the cars passed by they were close enough for some decent shots (I hope), which will be posted on the South Central forum by week's end. I'm still blown away by how friggin' quiet the Audi R10s are; they should be called "whooshmobiles"!

At first I thought they seemd a bit whimpy. Not really a race car.... reminided me of the STP turbine Indy car of Parnelli Jones in ~68. Just too quiet. As the 10 hours wore on though, and the reverberation of the other cars still ringing in my ears I began to REALLY appreciate them. Deceptively fast!

I thought of the turbine analogy as well, though in my case, I was comparing them to the modern turbine-powered unlimited hydroplanes.

It was noted that when the Audis went up on the rumble strips, you could hear that clearly, unlike most any other cars. And in the case of those hydroplanes, they were so quiet that you could hear the water in the "roostertail" kicked up by the prop falling back into the bay!

    Another ?.

What's the rough cost to run a F-car, support and all, through a regular season? Just curious.

I had to remove the first photo I had up. I forgot to
delete one of the hands. Although I'm sure those girls
felt that he had more than two.

Depending on the desired results, a good GT2 effort for 1 season with an F430 with spares and logistics would be in excess of 3 million. I would estimate closer to 5. At least this gets you passes to all the events... ;)
