The answer is easy: money. There is no one willing to put up the money required either to run the ProDrive 550s (Fredrick Dor, the owner, was looking for US money to run the cars or sponsors, and found neither.) The Barron-Connor team which ran two 575 GTCs at Sebring was never taken entirely seriously, and I'm not sure that team is still active. Basically in the ALMS you are competing with manufacturer's programs or teams, and there's little to no return. For a successful future the ALMS has to find a number of private individuals -- or individuals who can generate massive sponsorship in a very tough area -- to buy and run new cars, both prototypes and GT cars. This is going to be a major challenge.
