F'em, that is a huge disservice to the sport. I think once the ruling committee looks back at the replay and see how it was tramped down almost indistinguishable as a bunker, then it will forever haunt the person making the decision. Taking a major championship opportunity away from a player, kind of thing that referees commit suicide over years later when they rethink it.

OK, Mark Wilson explained they went out of their way to inform players that all "designed" bunkers even outside the ropes would still be played as bunkers.

Unfortunate, but I guess the ruling was correct.

Poor Dustin Johnson.... going through this after what happened on the last day of the US Open... he is going to have the shakes at the next tournament!

Still an interesting year of golf. IMO it's the changing of the guard with this latest crop of young guns that are playing well enough to take dominance away from the Tigers and Phils of the last generation. Don't get me wrong, Tiger and Phil will still won events, but they will NEVER dominate like they did.

The only thing I don't like is when you watch the sports results, for men's golf, it goes like this:

'Phil won, Elk was 2nd, Zach was 3rd, Tiger was 15th'
    or
'Ernie won, Vijay was 2nd, Greg was 3rd, Tiger was 22nd'
    or
'Lee won, Mark was 2nd, Freddie was 3rd, Tiger was 14th'

They always have to name Tiger, and golf will always be associated to Tiger until that stops.
I don't know if that is good or bad, but when you say Tiger was 15th and you don't name ALL the players that finished ahead of them, you are doing them and the PGA a disservice.

I agree.. but they feel like they have to pander to all the people that only watch for Tiger. I have talked to people that don't golf and have no interest in golf.. but will tune in to see Tiger win.

I think it is a shame that that little patch of sand was called a bunker yesterday. It certainly did not look like a bunker to me. What if there was a divot in the crowd and your ball was sitting in that? Grounding the club in that situation should be two strokes also. I think it stinks. What a classy guy to accept the ruling though. Could you imagine John McEnroe in the same situation?

As far as Woods notation goes, I actually root for the non Tiger group. The most self centered guy in sport should not get the spotlight for mediocre professional play. Hopefully within a few years of losing the #1 ranking people will stop looking for him, or he will just quit.

Correct, but who can a legitimate bunker be as flat as that. The only way to determine was from an arrial view. Sure as hell didn't look like a bunker to me.

And I heard on Saturday there was a little girl building a sand castle in one of the bunkers. Ball lands by/on the sand castle what do you do then.

And imo, you can't say there is b/w 900 and 1300 bunkers and then classify one as such. That's basically making the call "on the fly".

It was the correct call by the rules...

The issue is the complete lack of crowd control which allowed the bunker to be hidden from the player (DJ)...

The officials have a responsibility to not allow the crowed to trick the player (inadvertantly)...

DJ was robbed... but what a class act... I would have blown a fuse...

Correct call, but the officials were at fault...
