    This sounds really bad..

Columbia Pictures has acquired the screen rights to Michael Cannell’s upcoming book The Limit and set Tobey Maguire to produce and star in the film about rival Grand Prix drivers. Anthony Peckham will write the script.

Limit tells the story of real-life friends and rivals Phil Hill and Wolfgang von Trips, two Grand Prix drivers on the Ferrari team, who are pitted against each other during the 1961 Drivers Championship. Maguire is attached to play Hill.

Maguire and Jenno Topping will produce for Maguire Entertainment, and Cathy Schulman (The Illusionist) will produce for Mandalay Pictures, with Scarlett Lacey (Save the Last Dance) involved in a producing capacity as well.

Peckham, who previously scripted the Michael Douglas thriller Don’t Say a Word, has four big films on the horizon. He wrote the upcoming Clint Eastwood film The Human Factor, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, the Denzel Washington action flick The Book of Eli and The Tourist, which George Clooney is attached to star in.

The Limit will be published this fall by the Hachette Publishing division Twelve.

I think someone would have better luck tapping into the Billion Dollar NASCAR crowd with a documentary type movie...

Ooh wait... looks like I have an unopened envelope on my desk... now what can this be?

This really could be a great movie about great men.

Will be interesting to see who gets to be Enzo and the other legendary drivers of the period and how they do the Sharknoses.

Guess I should stock up on CMC and Exoto Sharknose models as investments, hmmm?

I do believe Talladega Nights was pretty accurate for the NASCAR crowd.

Nothing in the history of the motion picture industry would lead me to believe that this will be anything but a mess. Keep in mind...Grand Prix, Le Mans, etc. were fiction. Hollyweird does OK with fiction....not so well with biography and history.

So, Phil Hill's achievements are ignored by the information/entertainment cabal for decades and now that he's not around to object or rebut, they decide to do a movie about him. Frankly I hope nothing happens without the Hill family's approval.

I liked "Heart like a wheel" and "The fastest Indian" both based on fact.

A movie about Ferrari would be more interesting because of all the side story's that could be shown or used to tell the story.
