    I never saw him race during his career. I did see him many times at Laguna Seca racing vintage cars. Smoothest driver I have ever seen and his line never altered.

    Sir Sterling on the other hand.......

    I saw him race once…Sebring, 1963. It was quite an historic race for a number of reasons. One of those reasons is that it was Phil’s first major race since leaving the scuderia in 1962. It was also the first international championship race for the Shelby team. I’ll never forget watching Phil storm down the pit straight leading the first lap in his Cobra. I didn’t learn this until many years later that as he passed by, waving, the NART and scuderia pit crews were waving back to him!
