Finally, FINALLY, I've gotten in touch with the Battleship NJ folks http://www.battleshipnewjersey.org/ As a follow-up to the Times Square Shoot Out I thought it might be neat to get 20 or so exotics to park down on the pier in front of the Battleship NJ in Camden County NJ for a photo op. The battle ship folks would also love the publicity. I was thinking a late weekend in April/early may we take a run down there, park the cars, take our photos, leave the cars for a few hours for an impromptu car show, take a tour of the battleship, have lunch on the battleship, then leave. If you don't have an exotic but just want to come down to check this out, your absolutely welcome. I'd highly recommend seeing the ship. The battleship is an incredible, awesome, imposing ship. Juggernaught is an understatement. You really should see this monster. For the family, the camden aquarium is also right next door. Pretty much it's a straight shoot down the NJ tpk for 90 miles. I'll be getting some scenarios and costs from the battleship folks on Monday. But I'd like to see if there's is interest. I'll be posting this in the Philly group section too. Chime in if you like the idea and if you have an exotic you can bring.
BRING A AK47 OR A TANK WITH YA WHEN YOU GO CAMDEN VOTED #1 MOST DANGEROUS CITY TO LIVE IN THE USA BTW, IM IN................
Def would be in for this event Clyde but i have heard Camden is not one of the safest neighborhoods in the world, so what security issues could we have parking a few million $$$ worth of cars there.
This is what will be looming right next to our cars: Armament: - Nine 16-inch/50caliber guns in three triple turrets - Twenty 5-inch/38 caliber dual purpose guns in ten twin mounts - Sixty-four 40-mm. anti-aircraft guns in 16 quadruple mounts, later increased to eighty guns in 20 mounts until all were removed in 1967-68 modernization - Forty-nine 20-mm. anti-aircraft guns, increased during WWII to fifty-seven, all but a few removed during 1947-48 inactivation, and all removed in 1952 (not listed are the missle/rocket compliments) the big guns could fire a shell the size of a Volkswagen several miles inland & be dead-on accurate. This doesn't scare the bejeezer out of you???? Reality check: We are in a very safe haven on the outskirts of the city. It is a Federal/state park. Lots of tourists about checking out the ship & aquarium. Lots of employees & tour guides milling about. And we will be there during the daylight hours. There is no problem here. But if we agree to show our cars to the public, I'll make sure there is adequate security/watchful eyes. General parking is in a parking garage a few blocks away...walking distance or shuttle bus.
That would be my only issue the security around the cars, and it might be safer for to caravan their than everyone arriving seperatly
I agree. Would definitely be interested in this event. Sounds like a good time. Now...if you don't get enough "exotics" for the photoshoot, my 993 C4S should be available. =0)
You can do whatever you want in Camden. Most of the town looks like Beirut '82 and the cops have other, bigger problems on their hands.
Hey can i bring my gun? lolololololololo IN... Hey Clyde I'am looking to put an Exotic car show again like last year at the water front area on Sunday May 14 what you think?
I visited the battleship on Thanksgiving weekend with my friend and his family. This part of Camden and the streets leading to it off of I-676 are quite safe. (Most of the buildings along those streets were razed--there are a lot of empty lots, not overgrown and with good visibility.) But, as indicated, normal parking is in a garage several blocks away, with a shuttle providing service to the ship. I presume you're making special arrangements to park closer? either right where those folks are standing or right at the edge of the pier by the walkway. That's the game plan.
Sounds like a great idea, depending on the date, I'm in. Please keep us posted. Clyde, where about are you in Wayne. I used to live up there and still have family that I visit often. PM me.
I am in! Driving through Camden is no problem. Just get some parking arangements set and we can probably get a Police lookout if we need it. I can make a few calls if you need any help Clyde Vernon
you're the best photographer in the world....if you could get your butt to nyc, you've got shotgun with me (c5) or my bro (996 c4s)...
