Anyone have any idea how must it would cost to repair a not fully functioning photochromatic roof?
The correct term is Electro Chromatic Glass Roof. There was a post here several years ago where a member wrote what the cost was and I can't remember other than I know it was very expensive. I seem to recall it was in the $20K range and I'm not sure if that was just for the roof and labor was extra.
Yep, very expensive. As I recall, there was discussion about possible other ways to make it work or at least not be blotchy but I really don't remember any details. You should be able to search it pretty easily with the name Paul listed.
Again, much thanks for your kindness and the education of an aspiring 612 owner who just can't yet find a nice and fairly priced one.
Is this the red 2010 at Marshall Goldman’s? If the roof is not working properly that would explain their $155K asking price. I would consider that a reasonble price for that car with a working roof but it was a surprisingly low asking price for Marshall Goldman for that car (they tend to price high).
Where I used to be a boy-racer I have become more of a gentleman driver and love the idea of a real 2+2 v12
I am unaware of meaningful alternatives to the 612 with understated and unassumingly beautiful lines.
Josh, you don’t have to go for the OTO to get into a 2+2 V12. You will pay a higher price and would get better bang for your dollar if you go for an HGTS or HGTC, IMHO.
I am sure that this will be a bit of a dumb question... how do I tell if an earlier vehicle is HTGS or HTGC? Thank you
I split my daily driver chores between my 2016 Mercedes S Coupe and my 612. I recently dumped the Mercedes and went full time with the 612 for these reasons.
The wheels and the exhaust. Both have wheels which have rivers around the circumference. Both also have sports exhausts so you will see rotor time arrangements around the edges with straight lines and an outer cone. The HGTC had ceramic brakes so have a look a close look. Enjoy the hunt!
This color combo is gorgeous but doesn't seem to fit the bill you suggested. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264303631919?ul_noapp=true This color is not ideal but it is one owner. Still, doesn't seem to fit your suggested plan. But is that a F1-S already in 2006? https://www.jamesedition.com/cars/ferrari/612-scaglietti/ferrari-612-scaglietti-for-sale-10501971
Josh, both cars are essentially early edition base models. Both models have “slightly” high mileage. A Ferrari dealer told me that once you hit 20K that it is considered “high” and there will be a price hit. Both cars have been for sale for quite a while. I think the yellow is an acquired taste and would likely be difficult to resell. But there is certainly nothing like it out there so if you are into yellow this could be a good car. For my tastes the Rosso Rubino is a great looking car. I think that is often an over looked color and most people that see it comment favorably on it. Given the price difference I would certainly say this was the better “deal” and you probably can negotiate it down to 70K since it has been on their lot almost a year. In terms of HGTS or HGTC, 599 GTO gave you good advice. Those are more desireable cars than the base models but they are pretty limited in the pre OTO cars and so will be difficult to find and you will pay a premium for them. My 07 has neither of these options and so it is essentially a base model with merely the wheel and leather interior upgrades and Bose stereo. However, I am extremely happy driving it and it is a lot of fun. So it is not like getting the ugly step sister and the cars do look identical. If you want the upgraded packages and it is within your budget then there is a 2008 black with HGT2 and ceramic brakes with 20K miles for $109K with Porsche of Arlington VA. You could likely get that for 100K and that would be a great deal. Of course there is the color issue. So all in all you have to figure out what you want and what is in your budget.
There is a 2008 OTO that has just under 20,000 miles available. Unfortunately the electoral chromatic roof needs repair. The leather is fine but it does need a major service. It does have a clean CarFax with 3 owners. Unless I am thinking about this incorrectly, if I can get it for about $94k I can fix the roof down the road. Does that seem like a good way to think or an wrongheaded way to think? Obviously, I would get a PPI prior to purchase. Thanks for any advice.
If this is the one and you are able to get it into the 90s I think it would be a great deal. Essentially you would get an 08 OTO for the price of an 05 to 07 1st generation. https://www.porschearlington.com/used/Ferrari/2008-Ferrari-612+Scaglietti-970f54aa0a0e0ae71ba6c3c2dd5d1272.htm
As I said, it needs work on the roof and a major service. I have placed a deposit on it that stipulates if no other required repairs above $1,000 are necessary, after a PPI, I will purchase it.
Any thought as to what causes the roof to have issues? Is it just random, or is it extended exposure to UV, or being left in a particular setting?
Can you send a close up of the dash area and the center vent ? This is a problem area on many Ferrari's and the 612 is no exception. With a clear picture, I can offer you my assessment.
These are the closest to good dash pics I have so far. They claim the leather on the doors and dash are good. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
