We bought the 355 Challenge from Rob a few years ago and had it restored to original livery.

We are now in the process of looking for in-period images of the car during the Dr. Earle days and our
dear friend Bruce Miller recently passed away.

Any direction appreciated.

Barry. Where is the Seitel car today? Should be a Ferrari of Houston car.

 

I also would like to know as it may answer questions I have.

Based on Robb’s records posted in this site, Seitel car is apparently #100208. Years ago, I was able to contact Paul Frame who raced the Seitel car. I described characteristics of #100608 (4th digit difference), which seemed similar to what Paul Frame raced i.e. FoH parts markings and livery, kevlar front bumper replacement due to Texas World Speedway incident, red-to-yellow-to-red repaint on some parts. Paul Frame mentioned to me that #100608 could be the car he raced (though he was not able to eyeball it). Coincidentally, #100208 didn’t appear to race through/after Paul Frame’s legal woes (1998); #100608 raced in 1999.

Made me wonder if there was VIN typo on 1996 Challenge sheets.

Anyway, there are several other Challenge cars/VINs that I’m interested in. What a rabbit hole.

Houston-based Seitel Matrix was one of the sponsors for the Ferrari of Houston Challenge team. "Seitel" was very prominent on Paul Frame's car...

100208 is not a legitimate number for a U.S Spec 355, which Paul’s car is. The correct number (typo) would be #100228.

#100608 is a possibility as it is a Red/Black car, but since it is a bit down in the production line, I don’t think it is correct. Paul Frame was one of the first 355 challenge drivers so it would make more sense for him to have an earlier car.

 

I’m pretty sure Frame’s car is the first FOH converted.

 

Frame’s car also had no title. It was probably one of $146k challenge cars FOH ordered with pre-installed items.

 

Is ownership/location of 100228 known? Legit q: how did you conclude that 100228 is the Seitel car? Posted elsewhere?

 

I didn’t actually confirm, which is why I asked where the car is .


I believe I ran a Carfax on 100228 and it showed up in TX or with no title, indicating it’s a challenge car. You can give it a shot as well. There is no 100208 on the U.S VIN list. The typo is most likely from Robb.

If Paul Frame ordered a challenge car from the factory as described by the FOH article (60 hr install) car had no title. Brought in on a Bill of Sale.

 

We know Paul Frame is going to get one of the earliest 355 challenge cars, if not the earliest.

We also know 98673 & 98674 are FNA owned. That leaves 100228 (or mistakenly 100208) as the earliest challenge car. Just right before Barry’s.

To me, it’s just a process of elimination and trying to have it all make sense. Would love to confirm it though .
