Awesome...! Tan under a dark blue or a light blue...? i guess both combinations would look nice... i think dark blue would look better...
If it wins plenty of people. I will wait until the road version is displayed to make my final judgement, but I so far think the looks are better than the Enzo ... but I like race cars Pete
flame me if nec but enzo is ugly and this is worse. front hood gills look like saleen, rear end bulbous like c5 vett. did improve on side window profile and grill by eliminating silly f1 nose though. no excuses alowed even as a pure racer as audi and bentley lemans cars much better style.
Hubert, The M3 GTR did not have the M5 V8. BMW never made a car like this. PTG built at least one that raced in Grand Am. The M3 GTR's had a purpose built 4.0ltr V8 that shared nothing w/any production BMW--unless you count the Williams as a BMW production car. There were only 4 cars built: two for Schnitzer and two for PTG. PTG was not allowed to work on the engines. As far as I can tell, only one M3 GTR street version was ever made and sold. There are CLK GTR's and Porsche GT1's for sale in Europe. There is even a CLK GTR roadster. In relative terms, Porsche sold a lot of GT1 street cars. Greg A
Definitley has the qualities of the GLK-GTR, CLK-LM, and CLR. Also looks like the first Audi LeMans cars that were closed top (like Hubert said). Hopefully it will stay shiney side up. Maybe a few will make it to the street like the CLK-GTR's. What were they, a little under $2 million?
greg: thanks forthe clarification re: engine. you're right, bmw never made the cars (or as many as they said they would) and hence the gtr's were barred from competeting any further in the alms series. some pics i took in '01 @ laguna seca: http://nopro.com/lagunaseca/138-3898_IMG.jpg http://nopro.com/lagunaseca/139-3901_IMG.jpg http://nopro.com/lagunaseca/138-3871_IMG.jpg
Hubert, Thanks for sharing those pics! Did you enjoy the sound of those GTR's as they came off the corkscrew? Greg A
greg: hell yes! they had flatcrank v8's (or so i presumed from the sound) and with the seq. gearboxes created near champ car sounds. the sound they made was nearly as amazing as their pace -- at least coming into, through the corkscrew, and onto the rainey curve the gtr's were giving certain lmp675 prototypes a rearview mirror full of bodywork; truely amazing racing machines -- i wish they would have kept racing! at the same race, i got to shake hands with and greet hans stuck (after the, unfortunatly, parked his gtr at the bottom of the rainey curve -- nice guy, though).
In a previous post on this car I read the engine would be a 65° 6 litre V12. Does anyone know any more...I'm assuming they'll use an in house engine so is it a developemnet of the 612 engine or an Enzo unit? Anybody have any numbers for estimated HP output? Cheers Simon
Is this a prototype of some sort or is that the final look of the car...? The rear looks a little long, no...?
Just a thought but if you owned race team and have just ordered a 575GTC, you must be feeling a bit sick as this Maserati effectively renders the GTC obsolete before the 2004 season's out.
dare i say everything the enzo should have been? i guess i won't know until it hits the track, but then again if this hits the race circuit and the enzo doesn't then we'll never know. great looking car though, i can't wait to see it race.
Per autosport today the race version of the Maserati will sell for no more than £550,000. In the UK the Enzo costs about £420,000. No word on how much the road version will cost. 8 to 10 race cars will be built before the start of the 2005 season. 25 of the road cars will be built this year
The MCC at Fiorano (pics and story) http://www.italiaspeed.com/2004/motorsport/sportscars/mcc_test_program/test_03.html Andrea Bertolini got a 1''12''808 laptime.
