    That's why there's a C-5M program. Hopefully, you'll get to try one.

Taken while maneuvering over Clemson University yesterday. Death Valley is in the background and 5.1 acres of commercial property that I own is halfway up the strut. My instrument instructor took over the controls of my Cessna 172N while I took the photo.

Not flying but grounded. Literally. Had my plane put into a hangar due to severe weather in Brookings, South Dakota overnight. Asked to have it pulled out in the morning. While pulling it to the FBO, the FBO kid ran it off the taxiway and buried the left main in the mud. Took two hours of digging to get it out.

    Gear door OK?

Not only is the plane off centerline, the nose gear isn't even close! It does look tight.

Got buried right up to the gear door. Mud jammed into brake discs. Have no idea why the kid did not stay on the center line. Could not get mad at him. He was sweating profusely and shaking like a leaf. Had to calm him down, thought he was going to have a heart attack. Felt sorry for him. Dug it out, cleaned it all off, was all good to go. ***** happens, no harm no foul. I believe he learned a good lesson. I'm just as much responsible, should of followed him to the hangar and watch him pull it out. Oh well, I learned a lesson too.

I like how you handled that, much like Bob Hoover handled the misfueling which caused an emergency landing of one of his Shrike Commanders. Probably everyone has heard the story; he asked that the fueler that made the mistake fuel his other plane (P-51 I think?) the next day saying:

“There isn’t a man alive who hasn’t made a mistake. But I’m positive you’ll never make this mistake again. That’s why I want to make sure that you’re the only one to refuel my plane tomorrow. I won’t let anyone else on the field touch it.”

If I remember the story, the FBO considered firing the guy and that's when Hoover asked for the him to personally look after his plane.

    D
