Sorry, the old man doesn't own a Smart Phone or an iPad . The best I have done is a flip phone BUT BUT it's a bright red one and I discovered that I can talk to other people on it. Just joking around. That's really all we need and know how to operate. You guys are in the lead now.
Nice. I can actually see where my house is. I meant to just google ForeFlight. It's really a great tool. Mark

Awesome video put together by some of my buddies here. Not a hawk driver but still a great video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=ENzkvplSsao Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Flew my first cross country from KHWD to KTCY (which is about 40 miles) along with my new instructor. Very frustrating having to re-learn "slide rule" type instruments for flight planning. Apparently my iPhone app isn't good enough :-(. But hey, gotta do what ya gotta do! Pic is landing KTCY. -mick Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cool. You mean "slide rule" as in the E6-B below? I got passed for my cross-country navigation endorsement last week.. know what you mean! I found out I enjoyed flight planning and all the details.. I'm a software developer and am surrounded by heaps of tech and use it (GPS logging and self-debriefs with 3D views..) but also found the paper maps and simple but reliable slide rule stuff satisfying and enjoyable as well. Yes and congrats to you too! I'm also in the software biz and I feel like I just stepped back to the 80s with the physical E6B especially when my iPhone has Foreflight and Sporty's E6B along with the built in barometer. I showed up last week with a flight plan using the iPhone and was told in no uncertain terms "forget it - go buy the tools" and so that's what I did this past week along with a flyboys kneepad, paper local TAC etc etc and so my desk now looks like yours! Hope your cross country's are fun! -mick Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Taken about a month ago.. it's been here (Bathurst - YBTH) for some months now before being taken to China where I believe it will stay.. not sure static or otherwise. It has been nice on my visits to walk up and look around close and unhurried - only time it was open however was at an event in May.
