Today I was up in Monticello, NY to support my friend by getting him some of my friends to bring up their cars for the Robb Report Photo shoot for his racetrack called "Drive and Race Club." It is the old Monticello Airport and is a total of around 400 acres and has around 100 acres of wetlands. The racetrack will be approximately 3.2 miles and will be built unlike the one in PA that turned out to die out. The point of the photo shoot was to state that we are breaking ground in 2 weeks and will be the new home for car owners in the Tri-State area to go racing. The track is perfect... It is un-muffled 7 days a week unlike Limerock which is 4 and of course you can't race on Sunday's. The track will have 75 foot elevations; will have full time racing instructors, and plenty to do on site. The track was designed by the same person who made Virginia Motor Speedway or also known as VIR. However they will be limiting membership to only 500 people and will cost at the minimum of $100,000 for the first 100 people and will go up from there. (They already have a bunch of members) Let me know if anyone may be interested. Its 1.5 hours from NYC and a 30 minute helicopter ride from the Westside Highway helipads to his helipad on the site. Overall it was a fun and HOT day. There was a car there which I hadn't yet really seen in the daylight which was the Heritage Edition of the Ford GT which I am really starting to grow on. Enjoy the photos

Evan thanks for the update on the track!! The track looks very promising and I hope they host some fun events there :) How far outside of Greenwich is it? Also is it further West or North?

Mapquest says it is 1 hour and 38 minutes from Greenwich, CT to Monticello, NY. I think it is further up north. Anyone interested in making a run up to the future racetrack or now currently the airport for the Fchat crew only? There is a runway to drag and race a little up and down. Its slightly rough though. I will suply lunch for everyone and have the owner talk more about it.

Have some of your friends and the owner join us on the run on the 13th. I'm sure he'll meet alot of his future customers there. :)

My mom lives about 20 minutes away from there - I'm sure she'd approve if only to get me to show up at her house more frequently.

We had a spectator stage there in the last edition of the Rally New York. The tarmac is rough in some places, but the location is great for a racetrack.

No wonder there are a bunch of places with ripped up asphalt! Right at the beginning and then at the end of the runway

What's the proposed track layout? And what more can you say about the "ownership" component of the track? Does this mean it will be private and no one else will be able to run there?

It's been that way for sometime now... most of the drivers were not too happy running tarmac tires on this stage and then heading out to a true tarmac stage with cut up tires!! The organizers tried to make it into a spectator stage for the town residents, but it was a flop...

Look forward to seeing yet a third new racetrack in New England and wish this Club all the very best... yet have some questions and comments i hope someone from the track will respond them.

During the recent Lime Rock event a guy approached me about this track. $100k buy in, but it seems YOU DO NOT OWN ANYTHING, but if someone from the track wants to correct me please post here.

Here is my take, as i have been down this road of joining an unbuilt and NOT OPERATIONAL track. An ounce of caution and patience could have saved me thousands... and of course the pressure of "buy now before costs to join go up" was tempting. Again, look forward to a fully operational track here in the New England region.

Here are some figures to think about: For $100k you can easily enjoy 400 track days @ $250 each day. Of course these 400 track days can be at different tracks, not the same one over and over and over again or subtle different configurations. Various types of steak for dinner is great, but having it everyday may be a bit boring for some. Please remember, if you just do track days @ $250/day there are no monthly fees or yearly dues to maintain a facility. Will The Drive & Race Club charge any annual dues or fees? If so, what are they?

If this was me i would wait at least until they are nearly done with laying the tarmac and THEN consider CAREFULLY. Plans are nice as is having land (which you do not own or have any say about for $100k is my guess but i could be wrong, as the Club guys. Does anyone know if you own ANYTHING for your $100k? For me, proof is when the track is OPERATING with active track days at their facility. Odds are this track will have to sell some track days to clubs, so then comes the proverbial question, "Why buy the cow if the milk is free?"

Am now reading their membership form. Find it interesting how they want $25k up front, yet say "Once the above condition has been met, subscribing Members will receive a notice for funding. The remainder of all initiation amounts will be due within 30 days of such notice. If any subscriber fails to pay the remainder of his initiation amount within such 30-day period the subscriber will forfeit the entirety of the deposit." In other words, you forfeit your $25k.

There are also some very open statements in their contract of you agreeing to other contracts and rules, which of course are as of yet not published on their website and contents so the contents of which are unknown. Would someone from The Drive & Race Club please post all contracts and rules on their website, please.

Their contract says "A person subscribing to be a Member hereby understands, acknowledges and agrees that: (i) all use of the track and related facilities will be subject to and governed by a separate use agreement which will include strict provisions to assure safety and other requirements in such use and which will also include broad waiver of any and all claims against the Club and/or Jefferson Development Partners, LLC relating to such use, and; (ii) the subscriber may still be required and hereby agrees to execute a Private Placement Memorandum, Membership Agreement and/or other document(s) reflecting the subscriber’s interest subscribed hereby."

Again, please post online your "Private Placement Memorandum, Membership Agreement and/or other document(s) reflecting the subscriber’s interest subscribed hereby."

Please understand, fully would enjoy seeing this track succeed. Am simply asking these questions so Fchatters, who may choose to seek seek legal council before parting with $100k and appear to have zero ownership rights of the land or the facility or anything physical of known value to show for it. An sure some members of The Drive & Race Club would agree that before signing a $100k contract a person may want to seek legal council.

If you join in with some photo shoot, will these photos be used as a way to infer that you are joined the club? Will the photo be captioned that only XX% of the owner(s) are actually members? Please be very careful how your likeness and that of your car may be used. If said photos are used for promotional purposes, will The Drive & Race Club be paying you for use of your property?

This is the third new track that appears top be trying to make its way into New England, yet to the best of my knowledge none have ANY completed racetrack tarmac on the ground and none have solid dates of operation and active events. Would love to see all three operate, it would bring much pleasure. Fully wish everyone well in this business.

Am fully open to and look forward to a principle from The Drive & Race Club posting here and spelling out more of what "other contracts" means and what said contracts may entail, plus clear up anything else they feel needs to be addressed.

Again, wish them all well and look forward to enjoying three new racetracks here in New England, though at this time not one of them is operating with daily track events on their property.

During an event of the unveiling of the Gallardo Spyder at Manhattan Motors a few months ago, I spoke at length with a part-owner or representative (not sure which) from the Drive and Race Club. He had said the one-time membership is $100k and is also transferrable. I don't believe you own anything, but the right to use the track almost whenever you want. You can also invite friend(s) to bring their cars as well. I'm sure there is a limit, but he didn't say. You also get to have a "party" at the track once a year, where you would be able to invite up to 50 ppl. There is also a $4000/yr. maintenance fee (?) in additional to the $100k. Keep in mind this was a few months ago, so some of this info may have changed.

He also mentioned that they have paddocks for you to store your car if you wish and also have rooms where you'd be able to stay overnight.

But as Steven stated, for $100k, you can get a lot of track days at different tracks for that much $.

Many thanks for chiming in. Color me cautious and truly hope the track comes to fruition and wish them all the very best.

    $4k a year maintenance fee = 16 track day events @ $250 each.
