Howdy, all. Looking for some graphic suggestions for a 355 Challenge. Car is currently red with yellow contrasts - see attached pics. Looking for suggestions on graphic schemes. Will keep the Rosso Corsa base, and would probably like to keep the yellow that's currently on the car, but am open for suggestions. Adding more stripes? Change the look altogether? Suitable vinyl additions? Any ideas would be appreciated, short of, perhaps, the pink Hello Kitty treatment, though I must admit that WAS pretty neat.

Car is at bodyshop right now, being cleaned up and repainted in a few places, so this may be a chance to redesign the scheme.

    Thanks!

I like the yellow front and rear. I am not amazingly fond of the stripe in the middle, but if you like it that's what counts.

You definitely need Pirelli decals and some numbers, aand whatever other logos you are interested in.

    Have fun -

If it was my car, I would just paint it in Rosso Barchetta, but then again, I like the pre-war Ferraris.

But since you are a big F1 fan, how about Rosso Scuderia?

Dennis, If there is anything particular that you are looking for? we would be able to design it, and possibly make a model as well.

Thanks, Nicke. The "Challenge" on the side is a little too loud for my taste, but I like the flares on the yellow stripes reaching down to the bumper.

Anyone else? Ryan? Derek? MPD? And Eddie, I'm soooo completely planning on having Cavallino Models make up a scale edition, once the car is finalized. Any ideas you have would be great!

    Thanks,

To be serious, you have to use color theory and know what has worked before to get a great look. The colors on it now just don't go together in any serious way. Red is not a binary mixer. Here are some pics from the best looking F1 design of all time along with the other 355 fom NE.

If you do a design similiar in layout to the Brabham using the same blue and white shades from the other 355, i think you would have a killer design. Put a large prancing horse in the dark blue on a white shield surrounded by the blue on the hood and use white wheels.

The sides of the car would be the dark blue with white border at the bottom and white running along the hip and the pillars with the roof based in white with 2 large racing stripes in the blue a la ford gt. Maybe a 355 designation in the side air intake.

Since I couldnt get it to look the way I wanted in pshop. Basically what I'd do is paint the roofline and rear butresses black, change the yellow stripe on the door to be the colors of the italian flag, paint the wheels white and match the bumpers red to the rest of the car, or make the bumpers black, I'm undecided on that. Sorry for the lack of photoshop but I honestly cant make it look the way I wanted it to. (Aka it looks like I just dropped colors onto your car.)

Dennis, what is the color combination that you would like to work with. I am happy to take a stab at it.

Thanks to Mike and everyone for their suggestions. I'm heading out to the bodyshop tomorrow to talk about what they're going to respray. I'm thinking I might talk a combination of these suggestions, and see what the painter has to say about it.

    Thanks again!

Some ideas - I hope you don't mind I used a different car, it just made it easier since there was no stripe to delete.

What happens for me looking at your car as-is is the brain is startled by the staggering of the lines that the eye expects and doesn't see- or that it doesn't expect. I tried to show the break of these lines with the blue circles. These are the spots that confuse.

BTW, the idea for the fiorano-boxer style came from the 360 challenge of Houston Fchatter Thomas Murphy - his had the coolest colors I'd seen: silver with a titanium lower area (which is diagonal on the 360). Here's me in the car:

So here is my proposed solution: these extra areas patch the flow of the yellow areas and solve the missing/conflicting lines.

    Hey, Notorious B.I.G.head

Got the 295/35's today, AWESOME!!! Thanks for all your help in selecting tires. I love the look and I'm sure the additional stick will be fun too. Their price on the Kuhmo's weren't special, and they worked a better-then-costco deal on the Pilot 2's...so I'm riding on Michy's.

    Thanks!

Everyone - again, thanks for all of the suggestions! I love this place!

Grant: great suggestion, especially the first one. Maybe I'll have the red on top, yellow on the bottom, then the Italian flag colors (red white and green) flow across the car as "streamers" the way you have it?

Ryan: I too love the silver look. I think Rob L's 355CH is one of the most attractive around. I wouldn't mind doing a color-changeover but for the fact that if you do, then you have to paint EVERYTHING on the car, and that quickly adds up to $$$$$. :( If I did, I think the two tone boxer look with silver and titanium is awesome. Staying with the red base, the red/black boxer look is also really intriguing - is that a charcoal metallic that you used? The way the camera is positioned in that shot, the color scheme makes the car look . . . I dunno, like a "weeble"? Maybe it's the way the wheels make the bottom half of the car more pronounced? I suspect that, ultimately, we may just go with your "extra patch the flow" solution, as that may be the most straight forward. I'm going to the shop this afternoon, and if he's painting over the yellow on the doors and the roof, then it gives me more freedom. Thanks for the ideas, Ryan - if you want to come to NHIS or LRP this season, I'll gladly give you rides around the track until you puke! :)

    vty,
