creating an exploded assembly drawing of your capote? seriously, awesome. talk about convincing other people to take on projects! have this one on the list. you just doing the elastics replacement? or a whole new top?
Whole new top. Trying to document a how-to along the way as the service manual skips around a lot and has you doing some things that aren't necessary. Bonus is I got to improve my metalworking skills. The Ferrari dealer that serviced the top last (broken cable) did not diagnose why the cable might have broken. I've always felt the top did not go down properly but it's my first F430 so I had no reference. Come to find out about four brackets were bent on the driver's side causing binding when it got to the lowered position. I've heated, hammered, and straightened everything back out so it folds as it should. You couldn't really see the issues unless the top was completely off though to be fair. I feel like I have a much greater understanding of the mechanism now and am certainly more appreciative of how it works.
Great going there! When I did my elastics and documented the entire process, I found the top, while it looks daunting, is really a fairly straight forward mechanism.
you and John hold my deep admiration for your work! I would by lying if I didn't say I am trepidacious about taking on even the elastics replacement....
you’ll like this then, just recreated these original doodads. Price from Ferrari: $325 each. Price for me to make it: $0.50. I used the old top material so it’s authentic. New one on top: Image Unavailable, Please Login
