You sure about the model year of that spider ??? 1987 was the first year we saw FI and that was with the older body style and seats.

Not sure who you are questioning but the last Spider posted looks like an 87 with fuel injection and the old style seats. What am I missing?

    Yesterday's photo...
Bora #932 has finally returned home after crossing The Atlantic eastward and westward.. For myriad reasons* it took 6 months to ship back. A little bit dusty and some fingerprints, but otherwise well-looked after, it fired right up and drove out of the trailer.. Still has the same interior leather and lean-burn exhaust aroma.. Love that.

*We ordered furniture from Norway and Denmark to ship in the same container... it took months to fill our order.

What a story!! Not many Maseratis that travel like yours... May I ask, -what is a "lean-burn exhaust aroma"?? :)

Hi Erik, :D that's my best description of the smell of the 4.9s exhaust..

I don't even know whether it is truly from a lean burn condition, but I think it is leaner than my other cars.. I tune the DCNF Webers to the combustion color, and I get a unique exhaust aroma. Both the Bora and Khamsin have it.
It is unlike any of my other cars, and it smells good.
    Cheers,

Lean burn will produce cherry red headers @ WOT high speed excursions. Even WO the air injection.

I guess the high speed jets are not adjustable, so how can the headers turn red hot? :)

Everything on Webers is adjustable, you must know that ... but the stock jet setting for the main circuits burn a bit lean when the throttle is wide open at top speeds for extended periods of time.
If you run richer jets I suspect this won't be very acceptable at normal speeds. So few people ever did this that it's not a big issue for these GT cars. The vagaries of carburation vs FI.

It's still relatively cold, only 50F, but rain has washed the salt away, the sun has been out... and so have the Maseratis... what phenomenal driving machines..

Driving them back-to-back, the difference is quite stark - the Bora is far more confident at the limits of handling, the rack & pinion steering is so direct and the grip is higher. Although the suspensions look very similar, the Bora tracks easier over irregularities, it feels like the Bora's unsprung weight is less compared to the Khamsin. Still, I chose the Khamsin for this season's first show..

    Cheers,

This Esprit S4 is a car produced in 1994, so definitely a later generation compared to the Khamsin and the Bora. It has a front spoiler and wide offsetted shining rims under flared arches, not the same approach than a mid-70's car.

Still, if you put wider rims e.g. on a Bora, I think it compares quite well in terms of look, with curvaceous compared to wedge design, showing how intemporal that Giugiaro design was (picture picked in the Bora thread):

..it's just the composition of the photo with the Esprit in the foreground, makes it look larger than in person.

Even newer - this Esprit is a 2004 post-S4 refresh by Russell Carr with the round Elise S2 tail lights - the last year of production. Lotus V8 twin turbo, only 204 produced. I didn't notice the milage, but it is an absolutely immaculate example, the owner had waited years for the right car to appear.
