I pulled the trigger on a new coupe this weekend. My M5 was getting up in miles and the new ones are still a year away and have looks only a mother could love.
My son and I drove down to Greensboro and picked up the car on Sat and drove it back on Sun. The drive back was interesting as the nav system would give in structions only in Italian. At pne [point some kids drove around the car and shot videos as we drove down the interstate!
This car feels much tighter than my M5. Seems to carve curves a little better as well. I am still getting adjusted to the Cambio Corsa. It was very comfortable on the 350 mile trip. When I was close to home and had about 500 miles on the car I tapped the lift padle twice and floored it. Hit 110 before I knew it.
Will post pictures once I get it cleaned up from the trip.

I find it hard to believe that you would prefer the Mas coupe to the M5! I have had two M5's including my current e39 M5 with 90k miles miles and I have driven the Mas coupe and Q-porte on more than one occasion. I found the M5 to be the superior car in performance, comfort, looks and room by a large margin. But, I guess different strokes for differnt folks. Good luch with your new car.

Congrats on your new Coupe. I own both a '00 E39 M5 (47k) and I just picked up a '05 Coupe in December (1k). I have to say that while the M5 is a great car...the Coupe is by far more fun to drive. Performance wise I find the two to have different strengths and weaknesses when compared to each other (although I haven't relly gotten a chance to drive the Coupe hard yet) ...the Coupe clearly wins on distinctiveness... The M5, being a sedan, does win on room and is why I kept it...great daily driver, you can take a couple out to dinner and I can fit more golf clubs in the back. The interior of the Coupe is far more luxurious and the driving position fits me better (although the M5 has better seats). They both seem to have electronic gremlins that pop up from time to time. The Cambio takes some getting used to but is far better than the rather long throws of the M5 stock shifter (I can launch much quicker in the M5). Bottom line, while I love the M5 experience...if I had to chose which to take out on the back highways of east texas on a sunny afternoon, the Coupe wins everytime...and it still keeps getting better.

By the way...my Coupe's Nav system spoke Italian at first as well and required the dealer to use a system CD to convert to English. The Italian voice is much nicer as the English version has a heavy British accent and doesn't sound quite as sexy as the Italian...I may consider reverting back.

I have driven 5 series BMWs for 11 years. I started with a 540i six speed and then moved on to M5s. I loved all three cars I was just ready for something different. I had hoped to get a new M5 but I couldn't make myself like the current generations style. When I factored in the wait, the SMG only and the fact that the new M5 and the Maser coupe would be very close in price I decided to try the coupe. Buying the coupe also helped secure a place on the 430 list as well.

Congrats on your purchase and hope to see some pics soon. I also went from BMW to Maserati. Had the M3 SMG and found the car just to plain looking and while it was fast would not consider it to be a real sporty driving car. Like you I had thought about waiting for the next generation M cars but feel Bangle has ruined a once great car and looks like you will only be able to get them with SMG. Not sure if you know of this site it is a great source of info on new Maserati http://www.maseratiforum.net/forum/

i find it hard to believe you would prefer a teutonic sedan to a stylish and distinctive italian coupe.............well maybe not, afterall you did whine like a baby over the Qporte middle seat..........
