Last week I was attending a driving course with my 512 TR taking place on a military airfield. I was really impressed about the handling of the car! Very balanced and much easier to control that I thought!

At the end they took our lap times. Whereas a modern GT3 RS had 1 min 03 I managed a laptime of 1 min 05 with my 512 TR. I guess this was not only due to the car but also due to the driver :D:D:D

I hope you enjoy the pictures

the TR is like a train on on rails, very neutral. but when it comes to the limit - wow, very dangerous then
so the porsche dirver was sooo good? :) :) :) that his time has been 2 sec. faster

Since 1st of January of this year we have a new law in Switzerland which requests you to drive with the lights on also during day. Lots of discussions about that here in Switzerland. So I just switch on my lights and leave them (when you turn the key they switch off automatically). I did not have to have the lights on on the track but I just leave them for my convenience.

Regarding my black 575M: Yes, I think the 575M would have been faster. It is quite easy to drive a 575M fast where you have to work quite hard to drive a TR fast on the limit. Although the 512TR sits better and lower on the road (you can feel the lower center of gravity IMO) and I really like the feeling of the 512TR.

There were all kind of cars and you probably don’t want to hear which car was the fastest: A new Camaro followed by a Volvo V60 with 350 HP… Not bad cars for sure but I guess the fast lap times were more relying on the drivers and less on the cars.

If you had put the lights off, the extra aero might have made you as fast as the Porsche!
That first pic almost looks like you are starting some opposite lock?
    Bet you had a blast!

Yepp, I did not want to embarrass the Porsche too much so I thought I will keep the lights on. Even with the lights on I had to stop 10 meters before the target line and wait 5 secs to give the other cars a chance… :D:D:D

Not sure about the opposite lock. Sure I had some oversteer but not sure if in the first pic.

Yes I had a blast and it was a really great day!

    Because it looks cool :):):)

In Switzerland you are enforced to drive with the lights on even on a sunny day. So I just let the lights switched on all the time. When you switch on the ignition the lights switch on as well and when you turn the key to the off position the lights go off too.

Looks fantastic Markus. Hoping we and our cars can meet this summer. So far my 512M activities have been confined to the road, but England's roundabouts tell me this would be an interesting car to drive in the rain, on a bumpy road, with unexpected cambers and bends...not that I intend to.
And let's be sure: these cars are fun because they are flawed, compared to say a 599 or F12. ('Because' in that last sentence in italics).
Still, very impressed by your time...

Italy is similar, I'm going to convert my flash-to-pass lights on the 308 to day time running lights.

Darius – Yes it was fun! Hope to see you together with one of your cars – preferably your 512 M this summer in Switzerland! BTW: I am organizing periodic F-car meetings in Zurich. See here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/europe/335681-swiss-thread-17.html

Re lap times: The time is from last year. This year I was about 3 seconds slower. I only had one try (which was slow) with my 512 TR because I also wanted to have a lap time with the Boxster S of my wife (who was attending too). So I quickly switched cars and got a time in the Boxster S which was 2 seconds better than in my 512 TR. But I am sure I could have done the same time in the 512 TR. But I have to say that I am quite used to drive my 512 TR where I don’t drive the Boxster very often. But the Boxster is easier to drive for sure…

Tobbe – Thanks. They put water all over where you had to do the "exercises" so it was not so hard to the tires and to the car.

Todd – I was talking to a mechanic some days back and he told me that he converts these cars for very little money by adding a relay so that the lights are on as soon as you turn the key. I will do that the next time the car is there.

That is what I am going to do, I'm also adding a second relay so the flash-to-pass feature will still work.

    markus,
tell your mechanic that he will connect so, that the lights only are on when the engine is running, not when the ignition is on. because sometimes the ignition has to be on to check some things and then the battery will get empty

    Hi Romano

Thanks for the hint! Sorry, I was imprecise. I strongly assume he switches the lights on only when the engine is running. He is very experienced (Erlen Garage in Romanshorn) and serviced more than 10 Testarossa/512 TR only this year so far.

    Thanks again
