Jack purchased the car from Tom Meade in Modena when in Italy on a business trip. He actually intended to buy a 300 SL roadster but when he arrived that car had been sold. The California was his second choice.
Tom Meade had it "converted" to covered headlights. Jack believed that Meade gouged him on the shipping charges and was still irate about it decades later.

Some random car-spottings in the paddock at the June 2008 Sonoma Historics: a California Spyder LWB, a 275 GTB, and a 250 GTO. I don't recall if the GTO was tracked that weekend, but that's something that you did see back then. This might be the GTO that was owned by a guy in San Rafael, who was probably well off but not a super-yacht kind of wealthy, something else you did see back then among the small circle of GTO owners. Judging by their condition, it may be that the GTO was seeing more street-driven miles than the Cali or the 275, although none of them was likely to be seen in a Walmart parking lot.

That looks like La Honda Legend Carry Buck riding as Jacks' Passenger. Very probable, as they knew each other, and lived close by. Carry may be able to work on the Apollo that resides nearby also, willed to another neighbor; one of eleven Apollo convertibles!

Something else I recall is that the car arrived stateside with the windshield crushed while in transit. Something even more deserving of a lasting grudge.

Is this the same car? I ask because the number on the door is different, but one of the Ferrarichatters who posted some of these photos identifies it as belonging to "Tom P", and the Barchetta entry on #3943 says that one Tom Price was a long time owner of #3943.

By the way, the original poster of first three photos was @Prancing Horse. The occasion was a FCA 50th Anniversary get together at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco in September 2012. The road photo appears to be on southbound 101 nearing the Marin County tunnel. Imagine driving a 250 GTO in city traffic in dodgy weather. Or for that matter, the wingman's colorful 599 GTO.

Here's a Youtube video of the #20 250 GTO on the drive on southbound 101, including the Marin County tunnel and the GG Bridge. Also some great 3-liter V12 audio:

No, not the same GTO. That is 4757 GT. Your pics are of when Tom Price owned them. He now owns 4757 GT. He owned 3943 GT before.

Could very well be correct. Can anyone here prove that a Ferrari has sold privately for more than the $48.4 million that 3413 GT fetched?

Nyet. Lots of rumours and speculation but no, nothing has ever been confirmed to beat #3413GT, we can only assume that #4153GT and several other Ferraris have beaten that amount. I have read on these forums that 275P #0816 did not beat that amount and yet we have had several better GTOs sell since 2018 and what about the more recent sale of 315s #0684s and the three 250TR (#0704TR), (#0718TR) and (#0774TR), what about the only original 330P4 (#0856). There are probably 10 Ferrari sold since Monterey 2018 that COULD or SHOULD have beaten that amount but rumours and dealer spin are hopelessly unreliable. Tomorrows auction will be the first public test since #3413GT....................

I guess tomorrow will be the tell-tale conclusion for a valuation with Sotheby's auction. I know some folks that were pretty close to party's involved in the sale of 3647 and it seems the people on each side of the sale just think it's none of our business.

Absolutely. I agree 100% with them that it's none of our business. Conversely, we do not want buyers/owners of these cars giving very much over inflated figures over the real price they paid to falsely inflate the value of the car.
