A wonderful walk down memory lane with each new old picture to your credit. Peter Coltrin is my favorite as he seemed to always know where he should show up to get the scoop on new cars back then. Maybe Enzo found Peter useful...
Marcel shared a wonderful picture taken by Peter of his wife Gabriella Coltrin with a USA version prototype Daytona. It was definitely not the summer time but still my favorite Daytona picture!

I haven't seen a photo of that Daytona prototype in maybe fourty years!

It looks like a cross-eyed frog, hilarious, Ferrari trying to cope not with ridiculous tariffs like nowadays but with obnoxious laws imposed by four eyed Washington DC bureaucrats.

Thank you for sharing the two numbers. Yes the front grill opening seemed much bigger on #518M which was a red flag for that identity! Also should have noted the subtle upsweep in the middle of the front grill opening on the picture of #0618MDTR race number 56. The front grill opening looks really pinched in that picture of #56...

Not in all cases. Should the Breadvan be rebodied? I don't think so.
Some Ferrari have been restored to their original configuration, and it's a real disaster.

Hmm, can anyone explain why Ferrari/Scaglietti started building center scoops on the 4-cylinder cars in 1956? Something to do with aerodynamics, I guess, as the small vent cars had an exit vent or vents on the bonnet, which then disappeared when the big side vents were introduced - and now they are doing the opposite ramming more pressure under the hood. Have never heard an explanation, but would think that adding some pressure up agaist the firewall might have helped to keep the engine compartment airflow laminar in high speeds. Would think that uncontrolled turbulence around the carbs would not be a good thing, but this is all pure speculation...

Does this car still exist in this configuration ?
It would interesting to count & study closer all its unusual (one-off ?) details & features which just at a glance of this photo there seem to be dozens.

I agree quite unusual details but why stop with one when there were at least two versions of the USA design study built. Since they started life as plexiglass nose cars they were probably converted back after the pop up headlights were settled on as a solution for the troublesome American market requirements. Just supposition with no serial numbers to provide unfortunately. Then sold wherever modified test cars were disposed of.
Though as another example of modified 365 GTB/ 4 models the s/n 11929 an earlier coupe also had an interesting life to.

In my opinion the blue car version came first and the second attempt was the yellow version.

Rectangular headlamps were not legal in the USA at that time.
