    When I open an f-chat thread with many pictures, it seems to stop downloading the pictures at some point and just displays a small box with a red X in it. I have dial-up connection and run Internet Explorer on Windows 98. Is there a parameter I can change to make downloads work better? I'm not sure if the download is limited by website, an IE setting, or my ISP.

    It sounds like there are 2 settings that need to be changed. You need a computer with a lot more memory, and you need a high speed internet connection. :)

    If you restart the computer regularly it clears out the temp file which makes a big difference, at least it did on mine before I replaced it, I was having the same problem. good luck

    I'd just hit "refresh" (or F5) ... not gonna be any faster, but you'll see all the pics ... I don't remember what 56k feels like :D

    Even when I hit refresh, it doesn't reliably load -- but I will try tweaking the memory and file allocation parameters. I know I should update everything -- I used to be directly involved with computer technology and the last thing I wanted to do at home was look at the computer, so it's never been upgraded. I still don't use the computer at home much except to access F-chat, but I guess it's time to upgrade.
