$70k between you and the previous owner? I'd love to see the invoices, especially from the previous owner, to see what exactly was done for $40k while still being in bad shape after that.

Fake invoices. Fake shop too. Seen that a few times actually. "348's are great "reliable" cars, the issues are almost always pervious owners."
Learn to do it your self, non Ferrari shops will hack the car and do things wrong, actual Ferrari shops will bankrupt you. Even actual Ferrari shape won't replace studs, washers, nuts or other hardware, mainly because owners complain. Again PO not so much shop. When I rebuilt my engine and went though the car it was about $500 just in new fastening hardware. Some Ferrari studs with correct part number are just too short or barley long enough if you switch to taller lock nuts etc so you have to x-ref with Bell metric or other specialty shop. Its not always trivial either.

Pretty much ALL those parts you mentioned are consumable and should be replaced. I mean Bosch electronic components and pumps and relays etc are GREAT but they are not intended to last 35 years.

I replaced EVERYTHING. Point to it, its replicable, it's electronic, replaced it. Myself, correctly.

Also the intakes and throttles are often out of whack as people monkey with those to "see what happens": they can't get it back. Build some harnesses and reset the throttle bodies and TPS and geometric reset the TB plates, clean the air screws and housing etc. It's all in the WSM.

So many of these cars run wonky because the basics are off from years of shops changing stuff "guessing ..to see what happens"

Exactly. Where did this 40K go to fix what? Hope you got the invoices to prove the money spent. But, I agree - giallo looks great on 348 (and, 355)

Sorry for this late response, Scott. I just got back from Daytona International Speedway this evening. I had the chance to speak with Jim McGee further about Peter Sachs' 348 Challenge. The car was written off. As I mentioned, the safety equipment did its job and Peter Sachs was not injured. The engine did not detach. The picture I posted shows the car during an early stage of salvage.

Glad your car is sorted Nick. They are a joy to drive once you have done playing "catch up" with the deferred maintenance. My 348 was a similar experience and I assumed as such when purchasing it. It's simply astounding the bills for maintenance and repairs some owners accumulate and you can go over the car and it looks like it has not seen a wrench ? I decided to pull the drivetrain and do "everything" while I was in there. Now the car is up to date and rock solid reliable. Eventually the buck stops somewhere.....

I went for a little evening blast out. I took my camera with me so I could take another photo for this thread from another angle

...I didn't want to stop, so the photo is from my home yard. Sorry for that, but the car is just too addictive to drive

I'm actually not sure. At least the springs are black and not any racy coloured ones, I could try to look for markings the next time I'm near to a spring (happens this summer, I'll need to re-do the handbrake as it's not on it's finest time of life).
