great pics, thanx for sharing. in the last pic, the safety fence seems to be rather far away from the track.

People said on Saturday that there was supposed to be an 85% chance of rain on Sunday, so I packed an umbrella and no sun tan lotion. It was a scorcher, with the only saving grace being clouds covering the sun now and then. I took 1 1/2 hours under a canopy for lunch. Not many people were giving up their seats. My experience at 9 GPs has been either heat or rain. There is some kind of rule in FIA about 74 degrees not being allowed on GP day.

Good point, in fact this facility is in terrible condition. The paddock is very very small compared to Nurburgring or Indy. When Bernie gripes about 'world class' facilities being needed, well, the little tycoon needs to look in the mirror, since he OWNS this place. Its a wreck and not a great place to watch a race with everything being very limited. Cracking and crumbling concrete stairs, terrible bathrooms etc. He actually has the nerve to ***** about Silverstone?? Go to Hungaroring and see for yourself.
The crowd is great as its a mix of Europeans etc. Many Poles this year.
Buy your tickets late and get up to 100E discount on GOLD seating etc. Go to Budapest and have fun but expect very little from the facility for the race. Getting in is frustrating as they have a conflicting intersection for general admission and the VIP lane.
Thanks for the pics! Very nice. I shall try to post my own...

Bernie owns the track in Hungary. That explains alot.

Silverstone, Indy, etc. should complain about his conflict of interest. But then they'd really be hosed.

Need to change the name of the sport from F-1 to F-Ecclestone. ;)

Actually I thought exactly the opposite: The facilities were in great condition. The track is small and cozy for the visitors, easy to get to and walk around, lots of things and shops to visit. Great bathrooms (all clean and functioning), food stands, you name it.

I agree that the grand stands are hardly grand. Way flat and cheap, just as in Imola or Silverstone.

True that F1 has outgrown Hungaroring. As it has outgrown Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Imola and even Monza to some degree.

PS: Bernie has been trying to buy Silverstone. So he can beef it up to modern standards. But the BRDC snobs rather spend their money on a new club house than on true grand stands.

Its cool you liked it :) Hit Nurburgring or Hockenheim or Indy and the difference is so apparent. There was probably half as much for food, team shops or bathrooms as there are at Nurburgring. Take a walk in either paddock and see the difference in space for the teams. I was in paddock at both. I can watch practice from the pitlane with Renault. NO such luck in Hungary. I had to stand in the back of the garage.
It goes on and on. The running joke is that its only on the calendar because Bernie owns it and drains it for the cash. Most people in Hungary dont make as much in a month as for a Super Gold covered grand stand ticket. Take a walk to the paddock over the bridge from Super Gold and the concrete stairs are simply crumbling. Its terrible given the prices.
A US ticket is soooooooooooo much cheaper and Indy is so much nicer and larger its wayyyyyyyyyyyy sad its gone. I shall miss it coming from Europe. You dont know what you have lost. Lets hope somehow it comes back.

I have been to Hockenheim, Nuerburgring and Indy and I agree that the difference is apparent. Compared to a modern/Tilke track, Hungaroring stands no chance and should be axed from the calendar. But the same is true for Imola, Silverstone and Monza. Not that I want them to be axed, but they all need SERIOUS upgrades to be in the same league as the ones you mentioned. BTW: I read an interesting article about the expansions planned for the infra at the Ring. I think I'll have to hit that place again in 2009 or thereafter. Indoor stadium for motocross sounds like serious fun.

Totally agreed. I thought exactly the same thing while visiting Hungaroring. Indy's infield is a bad joke, but the stadium, the facilities, the pits and the s/f line are top notch.
