    Hey Guys,

I took those pics when I when to my house a week after the storm. The pink 2 story house is mine! We were able to climb from the boat to the porch roof and get in upstairs to rescue the Cat and Guinea Pig from the kids bedrooms! All the water is gone now and we can't wait to get back and start the clean up!

    Thanks for posting my pics!

    Later,
    Bob Gordon

Hey Bob, I found those pic on the Lakeview forum a freind sent the link to me. I can't tell you how many great meals I had at Dixies(best fried catfish, onion rings and gumbo around) and the Steak Knife. When I was a kid we lived near Catina and visited the Milne Mini Mart almost everyday for candy and whatnot.

    Wade

It is so hard seeing it like this now.

Here are some photos I took during and after the storm before I finally left the city on Tuesday (a day or two after the storm). There are some descriptions on the photos, so you can read what they all are if you enlarge them and go through. Most of them are uptown near my house and the area I live...not much use to a lot of people, but it is a 1st-person look at the uptown area directly after the storm, an area of New Orleans which the news has largely avoided.

    Hey Wade,

We probably know each other? I grew up at 6127 Milne and my father, Eddie Gordon, owned the meat market and store (now called the Milne Mini Mart). It used to be Gordon's Meat Market and Gordon's Grocery before that. My grandfather started it in like 1927!

    Thanks for checking in,
    Bob

    Hi Richard
Great shots in the photo album.
Whats the rest of the story?
Did your house escape the looting/flooding in the days after the storm.
How did the escape from New Orleans go, I'm sure you saw some sights.

    Chip,

house survived fine. no damage then, no damage now :) I left the city and went to Baton Rouge. I returned to the city the following Sunday with some help from a friend, and retreived my car as well as some other belongings from the house.

going in and out of New Orleans both times was interesting. There were many frightening things going on. a lot of big guys with big guns in the street -- not my cup of tea.

I'm glad you escaped the post Katrina damage.
Your photos were some of the first I've seen of wind damage in New Orleans residential areas. Sad to see those old oak trees destroyed.

I've been driving through Lakeview all week. All I can say is that, as bad as they are, these pictures don't even begin to describe the total destruction of that area. I recognized the white Tahoe while driving past Argonne/Harrison. It just left me emotionally drained, and depressed at the end of each day. :(

    Hey Dave,

It is pretty sad! My house is the pink house shown above. I live around the corner from Franco. Well, all the water is gone now, but the entire neighborhood looks like a large bomb hit! Trees and debris everywhere, all the shrubs and grass are dead and everything is grey and looks covered with mud. Well, here's a ray of RED hope. My son and I were working at the house on Friday getting things we need from the upstairs which was not flooded. Anyway, we were loading a truck in front and I hear a sound coming down the street? Was it a truck, bulldozer clearing the street, NO a SWEET Sound to my ears! It was Franco in the beautiful Red 430 driving down the street "autocrossing" around the piles of debris! He got out proclaimed he was coming back to the neighbor, as are we!

    Enjoy,
    Bob
