I have been searching and searching. I remember seeing a picture of a runway in a resort city that started at the ocean at one end and ended at the ocean at the other end. Now I can't find it.

I would appreciate suggestions on where I can find pictures of challenging runways/landings.

For the Crescent Tour Ferrari Classic in Arkansas on Saturday night we eat at a hill top restaurant over looking a lake and this runway. It runs north and south, trees all around it, and the "hill" off the north side. I've never seen a plane land at it, but I can only imagine.

That's the one I was thinking of (the first response to this thread).

    Thanks so much.

I am reminded of a "runway" on Shaw Island in the San Juan Islandsthat I flew onto many times years ago. You could only land going to the north because the north end went up the side of a hill and there were hundred foot firs around it. You had to under the power wires that were strung across the south end and when you got the wheels on, you had to apply almost full power to go up the hill, turn hard right onto a pad and stop before you went through the fence. Take off was down hill and to the south. The airplane just flew away from the hill and over the wires.Wish I had taken some pictures of it.

I'm not the least bit interested in landing at the runway you just described. Nor do I know many pilots that would be.

There's a great little Resort in AR, Gaston's, that has a one-way runway. You take off to the East and land to the West. There's a big hill with trees and power lines to the West making taking off in that direction close to impossible. It's also a grass strip. That's enough of a challenge for me!

The landing " places" up there are quite interesting. On Waldron island the landing strip was the beach. On Spieden Island it was on the spine of a ridge. And on Crane it was 1000 feet long with a 100 foot cliff at each end. Over-shoots and under-shoots weren't an option. The guy who owned the little airline up there was accosted by the FAA for not operating twin engined aircraft on all his runs. So, the FAA guy was given a tour of the routes, the first stop was a landing on the rocky beach at Waldron. The tour was not completed and FAA was not heard from again about flying twins onto the beach or Crane.

I meant Identification, as in the 3 or 4 letter or number identifier. but intent is good as well.

I haven't been able to find it yet, a private airport, I'll keep looking. Maybe closed? We use to fish at cabin up in Mountains west of Ft. Collins. There was a grass strip for all the cabin owners, but after 2 planes crashed and one caused huge forest fire they closed it down.
