From the pictures I could not tell what fell off, TV announcer said it was a flap. On the R wing. You can see damage to the leading edge of the R horizontal stabilizer.

It's a 747 Cargo plane with hinged nose. China.

"Pieces of a 747 cargo plane fell onto a woman's house and a Walmart parking lot in Georgia on Sunday afternoon. Federal authorities are investigating why.

The piece of debris fell through the woman's roof, leaving two holes. It later bounced onto the yard, according to WSBTV.com. A few miles away, a 20-foot-long portion of the plane's wing fell onto the Walmart store's parking lot. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in either case.

According to WSBTV.com, investigators said the cargo plane had been flying from Anchorage. It was roughly five miles east of Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when pieces of the right wing broke off. The pilot declared an emergency and was able to land safely."

Looks like parts of the inboard flap. Better the inboard than outboard as far as asymmetry goes.

    Good guess.
"ATLANTA -- The FAA says a China Airlines 747 lost parts from a wing as it approached Hartsfield Jackson International Airport Sunday afternoon.

The FAA says the parts came from China Airlines Flight 5254, a Boeing 747 cargo jet flying into Atlanta from Anchorage. They said the jet lost parts from its right wing while on approach to Runway 27L at Hartsfield Jackson at about 2 p.m. Sunday. The flight landed safely.

They said local authorities found parts in the Ellenwood community, to the east of the airport. Clayton County Police helped to recover the parts from the plane. Officials said the parts included the "inbound trailing edge flap from the right wing."

The FAA said other aircraft waiting to depart on that same runway reported seeing parts falling from the plane.

No injuries were reported on the aircraft or on the ground.
