Has anyone else heard the story that Pierce County just received some federal money to boost speed enforcement? I got a bulletin at work (through official channels) that the money would be used to pay overtime for State Troopers and area police to step up speed enforcement. The claim was that anyone doing 1mph or more over the speed limit would be stopped and fined starting Oct 6th.

I can't seem to find any stories in the papers or TV station web sites to back this up.

saw a blurb about this on channel 5 evening news tonight. Typical party line: "going to reduce number of auto fatalities by stictly enforcing speed limits in Pierce Cty". They named several highways specifically, but I paid little attention. May be something on the King5 web site.

Great, more officers on speed enforcement so the meth heads can roam about freely!

My dad's truck got ripped off a month ago by some meth dealers. They came by his house after the truck was recovered pretending to be police detectives and were casing the house.

In england they figure that only 7% of auto deaths are caused by excessive speed, i cant believe it would be much different in the states.

While increasing of patrols is always a scare tactic, that one lone officer will find you when your time has come. 1 mph over the posted will not get you nabbed with pletny others doing 5,10,20 over around you. However, being finely appointed in a Scuderia red machine doesn't help. There are some key items in this article when I read it in the paper the first time that caught my eye. State Farm, a public news conference for street safety at SH mall and guess what time of year it is?... elections.

They do the emphesius patrols on this side of the Cascades quite a bit.
Usually about the time some big spectator event lets out.
Best idea is to let one of those kids in the loud Honda's think he blew your doors off and send him ahead for bait.
Over here in the valley the big killers are still the drunk drivers and not stopping at stop signs along with the young women in front wheel drive cars who don't wear a seatbelt and get tossed out when the car does a soft roll in the median.
It's easier to get tough on speeders than chase meth heads too.

Their methods and technology will NOT stand up in court. 1 MPH! Right.

Talking on cell phones while driving 10 under in the left (fast) lane is a bigger cause of accidents than anything else.

It's called Lack of due care and caution. I go insane just thinking about it much less seeing it DAILY on my commute.

A once funny commedian, Gallager, suggested that everyone be allowed to carry pistols that shot little flags with suction cups on them; the flags reading "IDIOT". When a trooper sees a car with 5 or more he just impounds the car.

God that would be fun! (until the live ammo shows up):D:D

The white Z28 Camaro with dark tint has been hitting north of Marysville really heavy the last week. I bet the trooper that drives it has a blast with it.

Yes, he pulled me over with it 3 years ago when I was doing 10 over in my 240Z. He was all over my ass so I moved over. As soon as I did that the strobe lights came on.

He looked at my license, saw no warrants, how OLD I really was and told me to cool it. He had a lady pulled over 1/2 mile down the road by the time I finally got back on the road.

Not relevant to the main topic but approximately two weeks ago I saw a late model Ford Mustang GT police car: White with thin 'Non-OEM looking' blue stripes, no markings, only LED low profile flashers on rear deck and front grille. Probably OSP. Spotted just south of Woodburn exit. Just a heads up!

Ever notice how well traffic moves at the dangerous speed of 70 to 80 when there are no WSP on the road? Food for thought. Germany which has very few speed limits has a fatality and accident rate more than 12% lower than the US per capita. Could it be that they know how to drive? :)

I was told that most German drivers have the attitude that when in the car, you are there to DRIVE. THAT may be the 12% you are looking at.

    I love the logic here:

Accidents being caused by reckless speeding of 30,40,50+ mph OVER the limit ... heck, let's punish all the guys doing 2-3mph over....

absolutely insane. these are YOUR elected officials folks!

It's called = We need to fill the kitty.
Some of you are probably more than familiar with the metropolis of Pacific and the size of their police force in the 60',70's and into the 80's.
Probably more police cruisers per capata than any other town in the state at that time.
Germany may have a friendly lack of speed limits but they are hard core on those who screw up when driving or get caught DWI

As it should be. Fewer laws, just enforce the ones you have. And oh ya, they are actually costing the state money by lost revenue of the folks they site as they are now not producing income that is taxable. Colorado found this out the hard way in the 70's as their tourism went down the toilet because of over zealous speed enforcement.

All i have to say is, with the ticket income they are getting, our roads better be as smooth as a babies bottom...Not to mention the state should build us our own Nurburgring if they are going to hand out tickets like they are candy. A guy i know got a $136 dollar ticket for goung 37 in a 35. Im going to have to get my own radar gun and see what the Staters and Locals do while they are driving. Bet it is more then 2 over. Plus, does anyone feal like this new "sting" hurts more than it helps. When im driving, I am constantly checking the Speedometer. But i also love checking my rear view mirror to see the Ford F-150 or whatever else vehicle that decides they want to tailgate the crap out of me, because 35 in a 35 is way to slow. Grr, it just seems to make driving much more dangerous.

    6 to 10 over is $97 (state, county & city )
Your friend may have committed another infraction.
I don’t know what the Fine is for 1-5 over, but $68 comes to mind
for some reason. If he was in a School or Work zone the fine doubles,
so that would add up to the $136.

    either way sucks :(

I just feel safer knowing all my tax dollars are going towards safer streets and not towards petty items such as murders, rapists, child molesters, thieves, major vehicle infractions and other non-revenue generating activities. It is time to crush the hard working, tax paying citizen criminals who are traveling in excess of 1-10 MPH over the posted speed. These harden criminals that keep this country solvent, continue to cover most too all expenses for the good people listed above must continue to be made accountable.

What a deal!!! Grab your ankles.
