Who wants to go cruise the Caribbean?????

First off the little woman and I try to enjoy a nice vacation once a year. This year will depend on my employment status but that wont stop me from planning a good time!

So for now, I wanted to get an idea of some of the other cruise lines out there and your opinions.

We have been Carnival cruisers for several years and recently it seems like they are skimping on quality and service.

What are the other big ones like?

Anyone ever experience one of those smaller ships (2-300 passengers) like the “Wind Star”? I have a problem with motion sickness and fear the smaller ships will send me tossing! It seems the bigger the better? It also seems the bigger the ship the younger the crowd. I don’t want to be stuck on a small ship with a bunch of blue hairs! Also not sure if the price is worth it. I can get a larger suite on a larger ship for less $$.
    Any input on this?

Also, we consistently go to the Caribbean between the months of September- November so far never hitting any bad weather. When have you gone and what was the exp like?

ooh one more question. Ports...We leave from Miami. What about others? Exp?

    Thanks for the input!

If you have gone in September and not hit bad weather, you have been very lucky.

Take a look at what you'd have faced had you chosen Sept. '04.

To be on the safe side, wait until after Oct. 15.

Did our first cruise last summer on a brand new Princess boat to Alaska. Boat, crew service and food was all top shelf. I know they have a new ship in the carribbean, so check it out on their website. Our boat, the Sapphire Princess held about 2,500 with a staff of 1,800. Very smooth, 7 pools, great sports bars and a disco in the top section. I way skeptical of being stuck on a boat for a week and Princess won me over.

www.windjammer.com is the best cruise vacation I have ever been on...and, I have been on six Windjammers and we are planning one for New Years 2006 for the BVIs.

Not as primitive as a Windjammer cruise, not a 'floating hotel' like a Carnival, it only holds 170 guests. I've been on 2 of their ships, and it was definitely NOT full of blue hairs.

In 04 we went during October and saw the aftermath on a few of the islands.

    We were very lucky.

I have concluded that rain or shine you can still have a great time on these ships as long as the rocking does not get too bad.

But what about the "ROCKING"? Do the smaller ships move more than the bigger ones?

The rocking wasn't too bad. We did hit one bad storm on the 2nd cruise and I got a little nauseous, but I just headed for the 'center' of the boat where the motion was less.

It also seems that for the price the larger ship is still the better deal when it comes to accommodations with bigger rooms and balconies as opposed to port holes and bunk beds.
