Hey folks, Was doing my annual service and when I opened the gear oil drain found these tiny Springs and roller pins stuck on the drain. I was looking through the part diagrams but cannot locate them, anyone have an idea exactly where they can be from within the gearbox? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
all I can say is wow holy cow. Maybe Rifledriver can come in on this. Did u have any symptoms or issues
Curious as to how many miles on your car and yes pull that other filter screen for sure and the flexible extension magnet is a great idea
Car has 35k miles, just drove the car, shifting into reverse is not happy/doesnt go when done at pace, have to go back and shift slower and shifts just fine at slow pace. So maybe it’s the synchros springs for reverse? I flushed the transmission oil twice over and removed the filter and drain plug to find any more remnants, but maybe they are lodged somewhere in the gear box.
Yeah I hate to tell you this but I would not drive the car no more. You may have dodged a bullet to some degree by not making things worse but this isn't good. Sorry my friend but looks like you going to have to pull the gearbox
When you drain oil and find a bunch of parts on the magnet, thats when you park the car not go driving it around.

Thank you for sharing, I do not intend to drive it anymore. Does fixing it require to take apart the whole transmission or is there any other way?
Yes I did read your post, you said that it can be fixed while in the car and to stop driving the car. I had driven the car a little bit just to see, not a good idea I agree. I would request to please elaborate on how it can be done while in the car? My car is in Pakistan, and we dont have any Ferrari technicians here, since buying this car last year, I have been catching up on all the deferred maintenance as well as doing preventative work myself DIY. Now have been thrown this issue smh.
I do not teach auto repair. Its 8000 miles too far away for me to be of help. Sorry for your situation but it is one of the risks of taking an exotic car to a country where there is no support for it. Its an easy job for anyone qualified to do it. The question that has not yet been asked is why it happened. Anyone assigned to fix it needs to answer that question first.
Fair enough, yes that is always the gamble with exotic cars. There are 2-3 gearbox assembly rebuild videos for these cars on Youtube, I will try to open it up and see what can be done. Thank you for identifying and sharing your insight, the fact that it can be done in the car has given me hope. As to why it has happened, I will be inspecting when taking the cover off to check, it could also be the use of wrong diff oil. Last year I used Amsoil Severe gear 75w-90 GL-5 because we do not get redline NS or some of the others mentioned on the forum (zerex, spirax, ravenol). Before that the previous oil change was done over 3 years ago when the car got a new clutch.
The wrong oil cannot possibly cause that. The prospect of someone thinking that also being the one who works on it is troubling.
You could not identify what was stuck on the magnet.. What makes you think you are qualified to open the transmission yourself.(besides watching YouTube videos) Think..
