The first one is supposed to be a BB proposal. The second sketch looks to have many Dino elements - maybe an early 308 proposal? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Added more of the TR early renderings to the blog. http://ferrariart.blogspot.com/ You can see the evolution from the BB a bit more with the first ones. They seem to have wanted to continue with the red/black exterior. Wouldnt have THAT been dramatic! One can also see the beginnings of the vent behind the front wheels. Something they must have liked as it reoccurred not much later in the F40. From an artist's POV that thing must have been hell to try and render. No 3D software back then. Someone had to have went to clay models sooner than usual as there is SO much happening with that design. The cabin tapers in while the whole car widens toward the rear. And those rear haunches that start at the front wheel arch and flows up & over the rear wheels and joins the flat rear deck. Not an easy thing to draw even with the actual car sitting in front of you. They had nothing except an incongruous idea in their head. I often wonder how hard or easy that design was to "sell" to Ferrari. Were they expecting a completly new design? A look that screamed "look at me" to compete with the Countach. If they werent they must have been suprised. There is nothing in this car that used styling cues from the past. They even dropped the round taillights. After the Mondial was dropped, the 456 rendition of them was the only model to carry them forward until the F355 resurrected them again. They seemed to have stuck this time. It'll be interesting to see when or if they try something new with them again... GT
this is the book by Mark Hughes. Relatively cheap on ebay right now. It shows up there every now and then... as does the sister book on the F40. (dont have that one... curious as to whether it has design renderings on that model as well) http://cgi.ebay.ca/FERRARI-TESTAROSSA-by-Mark-Hughes-Pininfarina_W0QQitemZ330192325807QQihZ014QQcategoryZ274QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem a nice little book on the history/construction of the TR. That last one is for the 550 Maranello not the 360. The headlights of the 360 got started there i guess... Its always interesting to see little details that didnt get used but were remembered for other models. Nice one of the Mondial (the last one). The first 2 you see alot of Bertone influence. There seems to be alot of leaning towards using white in that era. Tried to start a new "thing" but didnt quite take off, i guess. Not too practical for white bumpers. The engineers won that fight. thx for the pics... GT
Thanks for those - had never seen the F50 sketches before. The last one is for the 550 as ferrariartist stated. One more of the 550 and one I did (I think I posted it on fchat) guessing at the 550 Barchetta shape: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
GREAT DRAWING! very well done. Heres an unusual one. The Pinin from the 70s. Nice tight rendering of the interior. again, larger sizes at http://ferrariart.blogspot.com/ GT Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This was going to be my next post. IMO, the Pinin's interior, the actual prototype's interior, is the best ever interior I have ever seen. Slight variation in sketches: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Possible interiors of the 550. Designers getting creative with the placement of the gearshift.... smaller dials on the second one reminicent of the 250 California larger sizes at http://ferrariart.blogspot.com/ GT Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks like the 575 SuperAmerica Sketch! Nice! PininFarina is the best and my idol in car design!
Oops, of course that is the SuperAmerica. Bit of brain fade on my part, especially since I did that sketch... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134504779&postcount=13

thats quite a hood vent for the M. I guess it didnt go over too well... some for the original 456... some good ideas... but i gotta admit, i love the final outcome a whole lot better. You can see the Mythos DNA in these quite strongly. http://ferrariart.blogspot.com/ GT Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
True about the 456M hood vent. In fact, I was just looking at that detail before I posted it and realized I had been "reading" the surfaces wrong. Don't know if you noticed it, but there is an Enzo-like raised section (power bulge?) in the hood so the "vent" is effectively only either side of this. Where are the 456 sketches from - same book? Had seen only a couple of those before; don't remember where, though. True about the Mythos influence - must find some Mythos sketches.
I see what you mean about the vent. The centre point behind the badge is not as "deep" as the sides. Kind of a mix of the F50 nose and the Enzo. Would have been cool to see that, just not on the 456. Not the type of car for such an "extreme" detail (in my opinion). But they didnt ask me... The Ferrarissima series does a great job at including the design renderings on the chapter devoted to a new car's release. I dont have the whole set - i just pick and choose my faves as they come out. The publisher - Automobilia - also takes the chapter and a road test and publishes a seperate book on its own. Basically the same info and pics, just more widely distributed in your Barnes and Noble or Chapters and such. I have the 456, 550 and the 360 spider in that format, so we will see more on the latter 2 models from there. Also, in 1997 Automobila (re)printed 50 design renderings in a portfolio called "Pininfarina Ferrari 50 Renderings". http://www.collectorscarbooks.co.uk/shop/4889.html A large thing. 11x17 pocket folder filled with single sheet prints. Almost picked it up then. The cover has the 550. Dont remember what the other 49 were, but i think it would be a safe bet that they were the more recent models that we are seeing here. The older ones (355 and older) are hard to come by it seems... GT
the 512tr and the F40 as well i believe... would love to see drawings for the F40. Bet there very few (if any) of those around.... GT
