With very few exceptions the apple tends to fall far from the tree and roll down the hill into a pile of mud. Marco may have the most recongnizable name in motorsport but if he can't drive he'll never get a race seat.
Now you're just talking crazy. And really, would Mark even want to move to Renault? I'm not convinced they are better than Red Bull at this point. They are a team in flux.
I would say that Mark would want to go there because they're former champions. They've reached success before, only a couple years ago, and it'll be easier to regain recent success then to build it from scratch, i.e. Redbull racing. Mark has also said that he'd like to drive with Fernando as a teammate to compare himself with with. Also, I'm not talking crazy. It's obvious that Fernando wants the Schumacher status, and part of that status is not having a top drawer teammate.
Possibly, but Red Bull does have Newey and if these budget cuts are the real deal, I could see them doing quite well.
Not surprising Piquet has struggled a lot, and having to compete with Alonso just makes him look worse. I bet he'll be replaced within the next 3 races.
Piquet has very little time now.............. Sato could test for Renault in summer Fri 16 May, 08:58 AM - Crash.net Takuma Sato could find himself back on the Formula One tracks in the near future. Just over a week after expressing his sadness at the collapse of his race employer Super Aguri, the Japanese driver is being linked with a swift return to the limelight. Rumours were already swirling inside the Istanbul paddock last weekend that the 31-year-old might replace the veteran Rubens Barrichello, whose contract is set to expire, at the works Honda team in 2009. The slightly less obvious speculation, meanwhile, was reported by the normally authoritative French magazine AutoHebdo, who are linking Sato's predicament with the disappointing performance of Renault rookie Nelson Piquet. So dissatisfied is Renault with 22-year-old Piquet, AutoHebdo claims, that the French team is considering a shootout test early this summer to decide on his replacement. Romain Grosjean, the French-Swiss rookie who is a Renault test driver this year, and Super Aguri refugee Sato, are reportedly top of the list for the shootout.
Sato at Renault? Doubt it, unless he's bringing money. I don't think he'd get too close to Alonso either.
Well I was surprised when they signed Yammamoto as a test driver. Although, you can bet he'll never get in the car, kinda how Zonta was a test driver in 07. Nobody even knew, lol.
I have been hearing a lot about this kid Grosjean. I doubt Alonso would accept another rookie sensation as a teammate though. He will probably lobby to keep Piquet Jr. in the seat.
Doubt it. Alonso wants a slower teammate than him but not a slow teammate. Right now Alonso is a one-driver team
Grojean appears to be the next candidate that can be compared to Lewis, Nico and Heikki. I watched him in the GP2 Asia series, and he was excellent. He's won a race in the main championship already, and he's the favorite for the title. If Piquet is dropped, Grojean has to be considered. Glock is very average, I have no idea why Toyota would sign him. It's not like Toyota needs any money, so why didn't they snap up someone like Adam Carroll, or another young ace. Signing Glock is like admitting that you have no problem with complete mediocrity.
i'd say, it would be interesting for Renault to sign Sato until end of this season, with he's seat for next year depending on this year's performance. Nelson has been saying that he's season will get underway after Barcelona, but he doesn't look anything special to me.
probably had fears of him not accepting his role as the #2 driver to Alonso. Who knows they also may not have wanted to get into a bidding war for him with Mclaren, as they'd certainly lose.
Alonso couldn't take the pressure of having someone with near equal talent on the team. Mclaren was at the right place at the right time. I have no doubt that FA got to choose his #2. Ridding of Junior would put Renault in the same position of finding a suitable #2 for the prima donna. Casey is indeed on the short list.
It's not like Hekki had a wonderful season anyway. I doubt Alonso had anything to do with Heikki being in the other car or not. I mean no one knew what Piquet was going to be like, he could have been another Hamilton and Alonso could have ended up in a similar position as last year (doubtful, Briatore knows what Alonso brings to a team unlike some people). I'm sure Alonso figured, correctly, that he could deal with Heikki. it was probably down to the budget and how much they were willing to pay for Heikki.
Luis; My long held suspicions about "Renault's" decision to release Heiki and welcome Junior were reinforced in this month's Road and Track. A great article BTW.
The R&T website has a link for every story except this one. If I have time tomorrow I might take a picture of the article and post it. Its a good article, compares the top 5 F1 intra-team feuds.
