From a macro view, what does PK gain from this? I can't think of a single thing. I think he actually loses from it in terms of reputation and future opportunity. Yet we know as a 100% fact that the PK's initiated this situation. So I think you are absolutely correct on the motive - it was just spite. And given that they have already acted outside of their best interests (by initiating a situation, purely for spite, that will absolutely harm PK), it's likely they also didn't think through the other aspects (like the legal ramifications), or, they are willing to also take that risk if it means getting one over on Flavio.
Well, The only thing I can think of is (conspiracy hat on) that Nelson is not a stupid man and knew that bringing this up would put a dent in his son's rep and career. We all know that Max has a woody for Flavio, right? Perhaps Max had something to offer PK in return for throwing himself under the bus? Surely PK Jr must have known this was not a career stimulating move.... so what could Max offer PK Jr and/or PK Sr to get them to agree to this? I wonder where Max Mosley is going after he retires? I wonder if PK Jr will be offered a seat at one of the new teams, perhaps even Manor?
Could be but I still think that you're giving all involved too much credit. The closest thing anyone has come up with for a rationale has been "They can't be as dumb as they seem". I think that they are just that dumb.
Well I heard, or maybe even read it on here, that Piquet had a performance clause in his contract. He had to be within a certain number of points to Alonso's total for the option to be automatically picked up. If Alonso has those points taken away from him now Piquet would be able to sure for getting dumped this year. I think....
If Alonso lost those points, PK was still below the 40% mandate that was supposedly in the contract. From what I've read.
Yes, but PK reasons he would have won the race, had he not intentionally crashed, so he should be awarded 10 pts...
Piquet Jr hinted at being able to get a seat for next season (don't know where I heard or read it though). In F1 nothing surprises me anymore. I know that everybody is waiting for Alonso to move in the drivers market. But are the new teams also waiting?
Yes this is where I believe it's heading, I very much doubt PK getting another ride in F1 though. Mosley was interviewed by the BBC and was asked about when he called Flav a loony, he brushed it off as a joke saying he liked Flav. It's Mosley chance to go out with a bang. Personally I wouldn't think the Piquets would have gone into this lightly, even so what had they to lose anyway. However I feel there can be no winners in this.
