I have an email from my Sales guy a couple of days ago. Subject line says ; lusso/pista allocation .

I’m passing on the allocation . Too many people higher up the food chain so it doesn’t make sense to go through hoops as it’s not going to matter in the future.

It seems the process has been (at least relatively) straightforward in Europe, but in the US it feels very dodgy from what I read here...

Limited Edition actually has a standard definition. All it means is that the manufacturer has already set a fixed and artificial limit on how many units they will produce that is not based on supply and demand.

Technically, a car with 40,000 units made can be a limited edition if the manufacturer has put in place that they will not produce more than 40,000 even if demand and production capacity allows for it.

There are limited edition cars that never actually reached their production limit. The Murcielago SV is an example. There are also limited edition cars that aren't that rare relative to a standard model, such as an Aventador SV.

Ferrari as a whole is limited edition. They only make 10,000 a year...get one if you can.

I had a Pista Allocation in Germany and give it back. I thought the car start at 240.000 Euro. Okay they said later 258.000 Euro. Now 290.000 Euro and you have to order for minimum 40.000 Euro specials. More is better to get car earlier. Complete price minimum 330.000 Euro but we all know, Ferrari will make a price raise at 01.01.2019 and the price will raise to 345.000 Euro. (Minimum)

    I bought an Lamborghini Huracan.

If the price for the Pista in the US is a straight conversion with Euro exchange rate it would be 400-430k with average amount of options. Thats pretty much the same as the 812. Wonder what it would be if there is a trade war with the EU and tariffs are imposed.

From what someone said earlier it will be around the same starting price as the 812 and then you will need to put in a some minimum options spend. Sushistar's info backs up that claim to some extent.

In Germany got nearly EVERY customer, ordered in the last 12 month a new Ferrari, a call about the Pista. The dealer asked the customer if he want one. Some don`t know the car exist. If the customer said yes, the confirmation come until 06.03. from Ferrari Italia. I know 3 people. Many people with a long history, don`t ordered in the last 12 month a new car, are hanging.

Curious why you say the Pista and its cost make the Speciale look exceptional? Pista is not the same car as you point out compared to 488. It's much more advanced than Special and much more advanced from 488 in design than Speciale is to 458. I would draw the opposite conclusion to yours.

I'll try to be more specific.

I have a Speciale and an allocation for Pista : no conflict of interest

value for money is better for the Speciale : same châssis, brakes, tires, wheelbase, dasboard, steering wheel, gearbox, racing seats, climatization etc.... but the engine is the best V8 NA ever made

Don't forget 488 is 458 restyling with turbocharged engine: 488 is already profitable

Don't blindly believe in Ferrari Marketing : 488 isn't a new model and Pista had the same alloy chassis than Speciale (I admit with splendid carbon parts)

Pista is powerfull awesome but very expensive car : more than 100K€ between Speciale and Pista : Ferrari wants to make much more profit : ok

Pista permanently refers to Speciale : Rosso Corsa, Stripe (Grigio titanio is closer NART stripe) but also 80% of the options are the same : same code same price

Conclusion : Speciale is almost a gift. Pista really isn't cheap !

I follow you - all the same basic 458 species but believe the Pista is much greater than its price difference IMO. Just a fantastic looking Ferrari well beyond the Speciale (which many say is far too similar to Italia as an SE) and sure to be very much more capable on the road and track - like another level-ish when you compare Fiorano lap times. You will certainly have fun with both! Don't get me wrong, I dislike the turbo effort compared to traditional N/A but power is power in cars this expensive.

I'm enjoying what Ferrari is doing here and hope there is a higher power LE version instead of just open top or TM options. Seems strange to build up the engine like that and only give it marginal power over the 488 when its so easy to get more with the turbos. However, its in line with what they usually do. The big increase mostly comes with the replacement models. Enjoy!

Expect Pista starting price to be slightly higher than a 488 Spider, at least in the USA. Will come with the standard/no cost goodies included as well, buyers know this car will depreciate slightly less than a typical 488, as it's not longer the "last of breed" that the 458 Speciale was.

Atelier orders being done first because it's the highest mark-up/profit, while they tell said customers of how "special/important" they are.
