I’ve been told that FNA is insisting that I chose between pista coupe or aperta. I can have my choice but not both. Have others been hearing this too?

:cool:Hmmm. Odd that you were offered an aperta as you only acquired your first ferrari in 2016 and only owned a total of 2 cars. Just lucky, I guess.

Very few would be even offered a Pista least of all the choice of an Aperta. Apertas are usually reserved for the whales.

Yeah, you can get the aperta for msrp. You can always pick up a coupe later for msrp or perhaps even less in the future. The aperta will be more exclusive and more expensive.

    aperta is a poser
    A very nice exclusive car,
but it's not the dedicated track car the pista is.

    exclusive 488 spider,
like it's already not exclusive enough!

coupes over targas on the track

Agree - the ultimate posemobile for the whales who need that level of recognition. They never get driven other than to C and C. As a track and drivers car the Pista coupe is it.

Really? And the coupe is not a poser? Are you so certain it is a ‘dedicated track car’?

Can’t agree I’m afraid. I’ve never been to cars and coffee and will be getting an Aperta if offered. The car will be used to drive very hard, will do about 8k miles in two summers crossing the alps, the Pyrenees, French and Spanish back roads plus Italy and maybe Germany too.

The slight loss of rigidity (only really evident with the top down and on harsh roads) is a dynamic deficiency much less than the coupe’s dynamic deficiency to a real track car like a 488 Challenge, whereas the open roof offers an exhilaration neither the Pista or Challenge can. It promises to be a unique driving experience.

Sounds like you're a rare exception. If I was offered one i'd take it and drive it properly too but that isn't likely to happen due to the whale posers who will soak these up for their shed. Just look at the speedos of these things even after a few years. Nuff said. Ferrari could sell them without an engine and it wouldn't matter to 99% of the buyers as they never get driven.

When the dealer gets a car to offer me, I will have to chose and effectively walk away from my coupe build if I go with an aperta. I can’t keep both.

I’m on my 3rd Ferrari now but I’ve owned ~15 exotics in 5 years. I offered to also buy an 812 and another lusso in exchange. Dealer is onboard but of course Ferrari has the final say.

True, the Aperta will be less focused but compare the pista with a true race car like the 488 GTE and its basically a 488 with funny colours and extra carbon.
Don't fall into the marketing thinking the Pista is a race car ;)

Just like Lukey said, there's more differences between the pista and a GTE than a wobbly spider and the coupe version.

Wasn't referring Pista as a cup racer nor expecting it to be....

Yet the 488 Aperta will probably run circles around the 458 Speciale on the track...

All are road cars. The Pista is not a dedicated track car. No one who actually has dedicated track cars would ever choose a road car. They're slow and overly expensive.

For the track I would much rather play with a Radical or an Ariel Atom.
The price of one new Ferrari "track-dedicated" car (ie: Pista) I could purchase:
    1. Ford F150 Supercrew King Ranch Tow vehicle.
    2. Ariel Atom.
    3. Enclosed Trailer.
    4. Insurance, parts for 5 years.
    5. Golf cart to drive around on track days.
    6. 5 years of Hotel rooms at track events around the country (15 events per year, nice hotels).
    7. Food at fine restaurants for all those events for 5 years.
    8. A new Porsche 911 GTS for daily driver.
    :)

I can’t agree either. If I’m offered one, the Mille Miglia is my next stop. My TDF is all signed up for a rally next month. In fact all the people on the Pista Aperta list (yes, my dealer has received a tentative list), not one is a whale poser. Not one.

I own a Ariel Atom 3s and have a Pista coming....you are correct. The Ariel would be the absolute car of choice for a track rat. Those cars are way over built, super light and never break. You can beat the crap out of an Ariel, never wash it and be guilt free. They don't lose value either...the new-new Ariels are now over $100k. Get a used 3s in the 80k range and be happy.

    I could not agree more,
At the end of the day they both are road cars.
If you’re really serious about tracks, get a challenge car. Period. Anything else will be a compromise
Personally and for that reason I chose to go for the aperta...

The Pista is a track focused road car. Any comparison with a track only car, like a 488 GTE, is like saying that the GTE is a crappy race car compared to an F1 racer...
Obviously the Aperta will be compromised compared to the Pista.

PS: Ariels? They are not really cars!

Maybe Ferrari's new ownership criteria is going to hold up this time. That's good news. Didn't appear to be the case for 458 SA - poser whales and flippers must have been the criteria back then.

Poser whales and flippers was the criteria for dealers back then. Most of the time super limited cars can be "sold" to a dealer mule. Similar to how you see a F12 TDF and Speciale Aperta with only 120 miles after 2-3 years, knowing full well that 50-60 of those were delivery miles.

    Car never left dealer lot...
