Good read, but I think they are making too big a deal out of Alonso's lead. It's not that much and it means next to nothing, as FA has said himself.

+1 Particularly with the way points are handed out these days.

OTOH, they note that 17 of the last 20 WDC's were leading at this (halfway) point - He's a long way from home & dry, but is certainly in the cat-bird seat if he can keep it going.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yes, that is a pretty noteworthy stat but has there ever been a season as unpredictable as this? I think it loses its relevancy when referencing a year in which there have been 7 different winners.

You wouldn't catch me betting on anyone at this stage.

+1 The weather and roulette tires are making for some very interesting outcomes!

Most everyone underestimated Grosjean. His first F1 races years ago proved he had the stuff.

Button to me is the biggest mystery. Acknowledged as the king of tire management and this year we are told its all about the tires. To naught.

LH; driving better than he ever has ? Not to me. I think he's lost motivation as especially shown with his qualifying.

Weber; living proof that its better to be #2 in a #1 car than #1 driver in a #2 car.

Alonso; very difficult to analyse if his car is indeed a POS and he is indeed Hercules or if its just that the car is OK and he is OK given his team-mate whatshisname is no-where to be found as a reliable comparison.

Vettle IMO at this juncture is in the best overall position.
    Again.
    Rats.

Fred's lead means nothing-no one remembers who leads marathons at the 13.1 mark...

As to the F2012 it has improved but I believe it has not set a fastest race lap all year.

best overall position with a 54 pt deficit? wow! assume Alonso wins 3 of the 10 remaining and only 4th in the remaining 7 = 313 points; Vettel would have to win all of the the odd 7 races and come 2d in two of the remaining 3 to total 315. Granted, all of these are wild assumptions, discounts DNF's and other drivers driving competitively. Not that it can't be done, but I think Seb has a long hill to climb.

Red Bull's strategy is to focus Ferrari's efforts on Weber then have Seb sneak in the back door.
    I know this sounds crazy.

    ;)
