Just noticed two little pits in my windshield. They aren't cracks at all just little white pock marks. Anyone have experience with getting these fixed? Can a glass place do anything?
Tim, Expect to get more of these. They're unavoidable unless you choose to refrain from driving your car. A glass place mught be able to help. If the chip is deep enough, they can fill it with a resin which has the same index of refraction as the glass. The result will be a defect much less obvious. Barry
Eastman sells a red powder that's actually for scratches. You get about 10 lifetime's supply for $30. You use the supplied drill driven pad with this stuff to 'buff' the glass. It takes forever, but it actually works. As long as a fingernail doesn't catch in the scratch or pit, it's shallow enough to use. Frankly, if you can pay a pro to do it, it might be worth it as it took me hours to get a wiper induced scratch off the Lotus windshield. But it DOES work. Ken
Fixing chips and replacing windshields is a very big business in Colorado. If they are big enough that they might develop into cracks, it is worthwhile getting them fixed. Otherwise, forget about them. Dave
I saw this product in Sportscar and exotic magazine and wondered if it would clear up the very small chips one has in a 20 y.o windshield. Has anyone used it successfully for that purpose or are they just too deep to consider it? Jeff
If you just have a couple small pits, call your insurance company, many of them (like Geico) will send a repair guy out to your house to fill them for FREE !
