My wife was driving my 550 south on I-5 today about 10 miles before Harris Ranch. I was seating in the passenger seat. All of a sudden, an airplane flew passed the car at about 25 feet and maybe 30 feet to the right of my car. It was going the same way as the car. I thought it was going to land on the freeway. It did not. I saw some power lines ahead of us. The plane tried to go under the lines but the tail cut the power lines. The lines dropped across the freeway. There were sparks flying around. My wife just drove across the down power lines. The plane after cutting the lines climbed up and away.

My son who was driving his van about two-three miles behind us said there was a bush fire started by the power lines.

    Wow!!!

The Plane most likely was IFR to Harris Ranch. That's "I Follow Road" (IFR) I would think they landed to inspect their Plane at Harris Ranch. Harris Ranch has a small Airport. They are very lucky souls.

Did anyone contact the FAA to report this? I'm guessing this plane landed near by. They should be able to track it down and it should be reported.

That's no airport, it's a postage stamp made of cement! I'v flown my 172 there a couple of times and you CANNOT overshoot it's runway. It's about 12' wide and maybe 500' long. The pilot was probably not paying attention and did not see the power lines, as they are in clear view on final.
