I know a few of the Chicago area folks have attended the Canadian GP, so I thought I'd post this here before asking the Canadians for their advice. As you cannot drive to the track, what is the best way to get there? We'll be in Quebec City around that time and we'll have a car (but that's 3 hours away) so I'm trying to figure out if we should stay in Montreal for a night or what other options we may have. Any advice would be much appreciated.

When I went with my brother we did drive. We stayed in Montreal and then parked in one of the parking areas that they had set up. We then took a cab that dropped us off at the track. After the race there was no cabs to be had so we walked the 3-4 miles back to the car. If I ever go again I would bring a backpack with roller blades in it and put them on after the race to get back to the car. Make sure you go to Gibby's in Montreal for a steak. Have fun.

I've been to the GP in Montreal 4 times so far. The subway is the easiest way to go there and the city is doing a phenomenal job of running extra trains etc. Just follow the folks wearing the funny clothes on Sunday and you can't miss it.

The real problem is finding a place to stay. Montreal jacks up the prices ridiculously and it will be already now hard to find anything. Expect $ 300 for a 2 ** motel. But since you come from Quebec, I suggest you pick a hotel in the banlieu, err, suburbs :) Then drive into town with your car on race day and park it in a garage and take the metro to the track.

As for tickets, there really are only two valid options: Either the Senna S right after the start or the hairpin turn at the North end. Personally I recommend the hairpin turn as it is also closest to the metro exit and an easy walk.

PS: On Monday after the GP you can drive your car on the track: It is a public park and you do a full lap without a problem. Only slowly of course, but it is fun (and rare) to have driven on an active GP circuit.

PPS: You should arrive on Saturday and check out the festivities around Jacques Villeneuve's Newtown restaurant. The party atmosphere is quite unique in the world of F1. Only few other GPs are as celebrated as this one.
