I know it might be a bit too early to start thinking about it, but after seeing the beautiful pictures and reading the wonderful stories from the last two European rallies I have decided I would really like to try and fly out to Europe and take part in next summer's event...it would simply be a dream come true for me! In order for me to start planning accordingly ahead of time, I have a few questions I would like to ask.

What kind of expenses should I plan for, excluding plane tickets? If I were to arrive in Europe a few days before the event and leave for home a few days afterwards, how much could I expect on spending for a few nights in hotels? I would feel nervous about renting a car for the trip (never driven in Europe before...dont know the rules!), so would it be possible to find an open seat with someone planning on going on the rally? About how much money would it cost to go on the rally? What else can I plan for and expect while I am there?

I get so excited even thinking about going...such wonderful people, such beautiful scenery, such amazing cars :)

By the way, has a location for next summer's event been decided on yet? After seeing the pictures from beautiful Italy (and having been there myself) and Scotland I dont see how any other countries can top that...but I know they will :)

Difficult to predict costs until we know where we are going, but I believe Spain has been mentioned??!

Yeah, I think Spain was more or less agreed on. Although I don't know who is organising the next one though, so it may change.

A rough idea of cost based on the last Tuscanny rally.

3 nights in Santa Margherita, 2people in a double room and parking 420euros
3 nights San Giminagno double room all food and drink (as much as we wanted :)) 400 euros
1 night in Planet Hotel 120euros

On top of that is food for 4 nights we weren't in San Giminagno and petrol.

I'm guessing I spent another 800 euros on that...we had one or 2 very expensive meals.

Best thing to do regarding your flight is fly to the cheapest destination in europe....probably London...then worry about conecting from there. You will almost certainly be able to hook up with someone with a spare seat.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers
    Simon

For flights probably the cheapest flights will be with Lufthansa to Frankfurt or with KLM to Amsterdam, cheaper than London most of the time.

Regarding costs for hotels and food in Spain, well it depends where you pplan to go and what hotels, but specially in what time of the year, being June, July, August, and the 1/2 half of September the most expensive specially for short stays.

Out of the summer season it is easy to get 1s class double rooms in 5 star hotels even in Madrid in the 100€/night range.

And for meals, a meal in excellent restaurants at an average of 50-60€/person, and at good restaurants at about 35€/person

For drinking, well you should not drink if you are driving, isn't it? ;) But for those who do not drive, a pint of beer is about 3€ and a hard liquor, large glass with not mesurement artifacts, but at the consumer likes (not spirits like in the UK) about 6€ average.

    - Julio.

    Jordan, Great idea!
Let's first wait for some more plans for the fourth Rally. We need someone to pick up the idea and start the organisation. At that point we will start talking about costs.

But you are definitely very welcome. You will be our guest of honour.

Thank you so much everybody! I'm really excited about getting out there to meet you all! There can't a better way to see the most beautiful parts of Europe than in a caravan of Ferraris :)

    (pricks ears up)

    Did someone say Spain? :D

Just got back today after having the Spider down on the Costa del sol for two weeks, and, I might be slightly biased, but God has it got some good roads!

Oh, the car nearly caused a mini riot wherever it went and random girls in bikinis kept draping themselves across the bonnet to have their photos taken! The car seemed to like the run as well :)

Now you see where my profile name comes from :D

Thanks. Shame it is now for sale... mainly because I need to save up for a 512TR!

Al would you be prepared to help organise the spanish trip given your knowledge of the area ?

Could you give us some idea on ferry costs etc from the UK please.

Given that Spain appears to have already been chosen, did someone ever agree to organise it ?

    Cheers

    Kevan

I would by all means help out where possible, but as one of the main organisers I would really be pushed for time, I tend to run about most of the time like a dog with two tails not knowing which to wag first! I would hate to let people down though lack of available time.

I know the routes from the Pyrenees across to Madrid, from Santander down to Madrid, then Madrid down to the coast via Granada, although both times I have travelled down I have kept to the autovias (Motorways) for speed.

The ferry I used was Brittany ferries, the Pont Aven, from Plymouth to Santander, a superb crossing, leave Plymouth at 16.00 on Sunday arrive just after breakfast at 10.30 monday morning. The ferry is more like a cruise liner with several bars and restaurants, even 2 cinemas! I paid around £900 but that was one person and car in a twin cabin. I am sure that a) you could haggle a better deal, and b) it would be cheaper with two people sharing a cabin. The return is 15.30 from Santander on a Monday docking at 09.30 Tuesday.

Any question please feel free to ask and I will help where and when i can ... sod's law I won't even have an F.car when the trip happens! My target for getting the 512 Testarossa is next septembers EuroHoon with Pistonheads, which may also be northern Spain, Pyrenees, French Riviera.

Out of interest Kevan, one possible alternative to the 512TR is a red 456, just like yours. How has your experience with it been so far? Basically, it is either the ultimate Ferrari with outrageous looks, or the bonus of 4 seats with a 2 year old daughter!

Thanks for the info Al - need to wait and see who (if anyone) the original organiser was.

With regard to the 456 I think most people were pleasantly surprised as to its abilities on the Scottish Rallaye - I think it fair to say that it was probably the least sporty Fcar on the trip 355/Testas/328/360CS but I think it performed brilliantly and at the end of the day we had no compromises on what we packed, comfort etc etc.

Don't know if you are planning to go to the airfield day - but if you can make it or we can hook up I'd be more than delighted to show you the car in all its glory.

No, not doing the airfield day I'm afraid, thanks for the offer though.

Normally the 456 would be a little too subtle for me but... red with tan leather and the scuderia badges makes such a difference to the look. The obvious bonus is one of all three of us being able to go to P.Heads and F.Chat does instead of me by myself (as someone has to look after Gabby!).

I was chatting to the lads at R&D Automotive yesterday and the general feeling was, as reliable as any other Ferrari, cheaper cambelt changes, and let's face it, V12 180mph performance and quicker off the mark than my 348, which is no slouch.

Seriously I think it is the best VFM Fcar at the moment - when you look at the cost of the 612 Scag its replacement, you can pick one up for a quarter of their price - BTW 1994 456GT launch price £146k - I think the 98 M was nearer £170k !!!!!

The ability to take more than one other person in the car is easily overlooked, especially where exotic cars are concerned - and no matter what people say it is a 4 seater - with a wife and baby I say go for it.

Hi Kevan, I don't think anything has been fixed yet. The Spain idea came up while we were on the Andermatt Rally (where it rained a lot) while discussing the Scottish rally(where it was forseen it would rain a lot) discussing where we could go the following year where it wouldn't rain......if that makes any sense

We already organise an Italy trip every year (you should come along next time ;) ), so Spain seemed like a good choice.

The main problem is it relies on more or less one person to do all the organisation and it's obvioulsy beneficial when they live or are very familiar with tha country. So far we have done, Germany, Switzerland and Scotland.

Perhaps its time to start a new thread. The European Ferrarichat Rally 2006.

    Cheers

Thanks Simon seen the new thread about 2006 - difficult to help out at the moment - other than try and organise a better prescence from the UK Fchatters perhaps - mind you we didn't show up in any great numbers in our own country :(

Can you let me have details of the Italien trip next year - I have seen threads about the previous trips and it looks great - gotta take the 456 'home' one day :):):)

And also there are a lot of other "car trip" commitments such as Le Mans and other European jaunts. I had Spain this year and next September will have PistonHeads EuroHoon, which has been rumoured to be Northern Spain & French Rivierra.
