    Hey everyone,
I was wondering what are the ups and downs of getting a 42" plasma, because I heard one down side is 'image burning' on the screen. What is the life cycle in years? I also want to connect my computer (both TV and computer). And to add some character, I want to surround the frames with artwork frames to match my classic room. Any suggestions/comments, thanks in advance!

I have a Sony 42" plasma. I have had it since Feb. 03 and not had any problems.

do you know the life cycle? 5-6 years? and can it be 'refilled' or something? Easy to switch between computer and TV?

I looked long and hard into Plasma before I bought a 42 inch Panasonic Viera.
Screen Burn should not be an issue with a good quality screen.
The Viera is PC compatable.Plasma's cannot be refilled and the life expectancy is that of any normal tv nowadays.
Been more than impressed with mine since I got it.

I too am considering a plazma to replace my Sony 53 inch XBR that has been a great TV for about a decade now.

I considered plasma and and after many hours of in store viewing and comparison I went with the new Mitsubishi DLP. Awesome picture and for less money I went up to a 62" screen. With the money I saved I mated it to a Denon DVD-3910 player with 720p/1080i upconversion software and HDMI output. DVD movies are incredible in terms of detail, clarity and depth of color.

Regardless of the quality of the TV, if you limit the amount of time you use it as a computer monitor (ie don't leave it on when not in use) then you shouldn't have difficulty with burn in.

I had an 80 yr old great aunt who had a bar burned in on the left and bottom of her rear projection big screen because ALL she ever watched was QVC.

Most of the good plasmas have built-in screensavers where you can download your own digital photographs that run like a slide show when you're not watching it as a TV which prevents burnin.

dfratini made a good point, as for plasma, I just want to save some space it my room, I was thinking of hanging it on the wall with a art frame around it, but considering life + burn + price, I might maybe choose a larger LCD ? any thoughts..
