My car came with chromw wheels which were OK but not ideal. I sunce got some Scuderia wheels but figured I'd dress up the chrome wheels by making them black. I didn't want to get into the trouble of painting them especially since they're chrome so I decided to spray on some Plasti-Dip. I also used their glossifier over it and that gave it a semi gloss sheen. It's also reversible in that it peels off.
A quick mod without permanent changes.

Im n ot a fan of the chrome lip but they look much better, Plasti dip is awesome in the hands of the right user and can really fool you. My buddy's from 26" wheel on his bagger is dipped and it looks painted. Its been on for years and looks 100% still, however we did our snowmobile trailer last year and its taking a beating and should re-redone. I guess its lifespan depends on how it is cared for and the environment its used in. My wheel shop friends did al their daily driver wheels and it held up nicely all winter. Good job!

I've seen some stuff online that says it can last a year. I think it just depends on use/abuse.

I did the trim, front grill and vents, and rear diffuser on my Audi S5 more than two years ago. 25,000 miles and two harsh NH winters and it still looks great. Proper prep work is the key.

    Not bad at all.

Would it be safe to say that a single 11oz. can is good enough for 1 average-sized wheel?

If you are just doing the outer side, you would need 3 cans. For me this was enough to apply 4 coats with some left over in the third can. I also coated the inner part of the drum (one thick coat), as it was silver colored and looked "odd", so I ended up using 4 cans, with product left over.

To clarify, Plasti-dip is just a peel off spray paint, correct?

One just applies it as they would any other spray paint?

Pretty much. The difference is you have to put it on thicker than regular spray paint. I found about 6 inches away and moving slowly across the wheel does it. Hey, if you mess it up, just peel it off after it dries and start over. I did not bother masking around the wheel and just over sprayed it onto the tires and then peeled it off.

One caveat....if the surface is rough, it may be harder to peel off, but there does not appear to be any issue of it clinging to smooth surfaces (chrome in my case).
