I just found this in my fathers garage. We used to build these together when I was a kid! The box is a bit tattered, but the plane and decals look like new! I believe it's from the early 70s.

Looks like we might have a other father / son project.

Loved those when I was a kid. Always ran into two problems though. I was so anxious to get it together that I inevitably broke one of the small pieces while separating them from the plastic holder thing. Or if I didn't break anything separating the pieces, I was never patient enough to complete the project.

Looks like fun though. Keep us posted. Good luck!

Be careful with the decals. They may fall apart in water. Microscale makes a liquid decal film that should hold them together if it matters much to you.

Is that a cockpit "smiley face" on the box top? I see a blue mouth on the underside, a blue nose, and a white/black eyeball on the windshield. The decals shown don't seem to include these character features. Have fun.

By modern standards the Aurora airliner kits were pretty crude, but the shapes tended to be fairly accurate on the later kits, of which this is one, and probably still the only 737 in 1/72 scale.

My dad built me a couple of Aurora kits back when I was about 8 years old, and one of them was the Pan Am 707. No paint was applied - just built the kit and put on the decals.

I remember building a Hawk plastic model of a Curtiss Bendix Racer in 1946 . It was small and SOLID PLASTIC . Beautifully done but solid throughout. I have probably 25-30 plastic models that I'm getting rid of since I realize that at my age I won't be able to build them all.
