    Hello all,

I trailered the Dino 700 miles from Phoenix to Monterey for the Concorso Italiano...

Took Platinum and Best Dino Award.. I am still on cloud nine...

For those of you who participate in these Concours realize how much work it takes to get the car ready, especially if you do all the work yourself.

They scrutinized the screws that fasten the rubber stops for the trunk, engine and spare tire compartments... mine were wrong...

Just needed to share this great news with you.

    Cheers

    Pietro,

BIG CONGRATS!! As a senior judge for the FCA and fellow Dino owner and concours entrant, I know exactly how much work it takes to win those awards . . . it's an endless process. Good-on-you! Now the trick is to figure out how to keep it in that condition and still enjoy driving it.

    Good luck,

    Bill

Congratulations Pietro! I'd love to swing by and see your car in person sometime. Maybe the next time I visit my parents.

Are they supposed to be phillips, pan head attaching screws?

Please pics. What you say about the screws is exactly why I'll NEVER enter a concours. I'd much rather compete with the car on a track day!

Thank you all for your kind words. Here are a couple of photos of the car on the green.

I will take pictures of the "wrong" screws this weekend, but the correct style should be phillips head type.

Yes ... platinum even with shields, Ferrari emblem on rear deck and prancing horse. We've owned this car since 1976 (I was 12). Please understand, my Dad had the body restored some 22 years ago. Back then nobody cared about the Ferrari badges. The interior is original, the engine has never been out of the car.

I think the judges were impressed by the "preservation" factor.

I've requested my official score, need to wait 2 weeks.

    Cheers

Pietro your 1971 Dino looks amazing! Silver cars seem to hi-light styling characteristics better than red... Does it have a black interior? A very nice result for all the hard work and travel. There must be a story as to how a euro spec Dino made it's way to America? Thanks.

I think that if the judge said that to me about my car i would break down uncontrolably in tears of laughter and tell him he needs to get a life!

Thats probably a very good example of why alot of people won't do the concourse thing or even have a car that qualifies.

I have a little different opinion on the screw issue though I certainlly understand the concerns. A lot of people try to make these old car as close to original as they can. Its a sort of game.

A lot of us don't have all the money in the world.

If someone told me that the screws on the bumpers or interior screws were flat/phillips, annodized/non-annodized, pan head, etc, I would think that would be something I would want to fix for next time. And it would be easy to do so.

After all it cost quite a bit to get these cars to that level, trailer them, etc.

Congratulations, very nice car. Like the silver and like the Euro even more.

    Drew,

those are my sentiments exactly . I've been to many shows and every judge finds something a little different. It is like a game, and most of the things - like you said - are somewhat "affordable" to fix. My Dad and I enjoyed chasing those things down... never seem to catch up though...

I do know one thing ... this car spent most of it's life within a 10 mile radius of my Parents' house in Philly... last weekend it was in Monterey, something my Dad would only dream of.... mission accomplished!

    Cheers.

My father died wanting nothing more that a Vespa. When as a young man I arrived home in a Dino, my mother was very proud almost in tears. She had seen many of the Castel'Arquato to Vernasca hill climbs. They ran outside her house and she would watch them from the balcony. I remember a few also. http://www.cpae.it/silverflag/index_en.htm
She never dreamed she would drive in a Ferrari, let alone be taken to a restaurant in one owned by her son. There are no better memories for me.
