Guys, I am the proud new owner of TR 78565. She's a very nice '88.5 Red/Tan example with only 6562 miles. Currently she's passing through the capable hands of Messers Crall and Willis and should be in my garage in about two weeks. Pics. to follow there upon, I promiss! I was lucky enough to see Rick's (Sandy Eggo) beautiful TR get judged at this year's Concorso Italiano and it has inspried me to prep this car for judging next year. I am a veteren of many classic Corvette "Top Flight" judgings but I really don't know the points criteria for this judging and I would like input on the deductions I will face for the following items that are not currently with the car: 1. Tool roll missing the "long" slotted blade screw driver. (Working on this one) 2. Missing the OEM Champion spark plug. (Will the modern equivalent be ok?) 3. No "Owners Warranty and Service Book". (Should I try to find either a repro. or a book orphaned from another car, etc?) I have all the other "bits and pieces" including a full jack kit, emergencey light, the original window sticker, and all the other books and pamphlets except the Service / Warranty book. Operationally the car is 100% save the console parking light bulb. So I'd like your thoughts on which of the above items are worth chasing down and any other input on common judging pitfalls. Thanks in advance for any comments and guidance. :harry
incomplete tools, missing one or all is a 1-2 point deduction not a deduction (I may have one in my toolbox) bet you $100 you can find one on ebay for a couple dollars, and I doubt having a modern one is an issue. repros are fine, originals are nice, and might be a tie breaker for silver/gold, but no tie breakers for platinum. On the off chance a judge looks at that, could cost 1/2 point or a point. Pitfalls. Don't know about your car, but if it has a license plate frame, lose it for judging. If you have aftermarket floor mats, hide them too. Anything that's not factory, dumb stuff like valve stem covers with Ferrari Logos, etc. Make sure EVERYTHING works. Lights, parking lights, brake lights, turn signals, wipers, power windows, etc. There are plenty of concours threads here. I've judged at regional FCA shows, not at nationals, where the rules tend to be more strictly enforced. Enjoy. Dave
Been doing some research on the console parking light bulb as mine also does not light. I don't think the switch is supposed to illuminate when depressed, despite having a bulb inside. I suspect this is a universal switch with multiple applications, some of which are wired to light when depressed. Per the WSD there is no ground to that switch--that's why the bulb does not light. There are three terminals, but only a red-striped green and a violet striped white wire for connections. If you want it to light, you can add a ground to the unoccupied 3rd terminal. On the TR, when this switch is pressed there is instead a green "P" that illuminates on the dash that serves the same purpose. I would rather my switch was lit as it is much more obvious if you accidentally depress the button, but I am keeping it in it's as-built configuration.
Thanks for the shout-out Harry! I lost a full point for something kinda dumb...my original OEM wheels all had a little "curb rash" from tire changes. I just looked at them too late to do anything about it. Easy 1 point regained by having them refinished some afternoon. I lost fractions of points for the following: Check your weather-stripping around doors/windows for "separation". I am still unsure what this refers to exactly but the guys at the shop knew what it meant. I had some 'excessive' scratches on the drivers door sill. Some paint was missing off of a random part in the engine bay. Good luck!! PS While you won't have points deducted for not having these items - it certainly can't hurt!! I had the full 6 piece luggage set and original window sticker for the car.
